The Kansas City Public Library is designed to look like books on a shelf.
At first you look at these pictures and you think, “Cool! The building looks like books. And it’s a library. I get it.”

Then you think, “Those must be large-print editions of Charlotte’s Web and Romeo and Juliet.

I live like 10 minutes from there! It’s way cool in person.
Me too! I love walking past this with unsuspecting, out of town visitors.
Fellow KC 22-words fan!
i thought the same thing about the “large print editions!”
Way to Disney-up the experience.
Shouldn’t they make the building look like an e-reader? Oh wait. All buildings look like that.
Are there windows anywhere on the building?
This is awesome and the city looks so clean and pretty too!
Fantastic, and my font size as well.
I’ll bet turning the pages works up a sweat.
that was just neat to see. would love to see it in real life. :)
This is actually just the parking garage for the Library. The Library itself is connected next to it and was originally The First National Bank Building. It has a media center in the original huge bank vault and a cafe called the Nine Muses Cafe. Here is the website for it: http://kclibrary.org/central

I grew up in KC but haven’t lived there for over 20 years. Its great to see my cool old hometown get more innovative and creative redevelopment going on in downtown, which was a dead zone in the 70′s and 80′s. I plan to check it out next time I visit my folks.
It’s been a while since i’ve been home to kc .When did this get built? Is it the downtown library ?
I’ll look for it next year when i’m there.
Way cool.
Question: Tale of two cities is that the one written by that Christian Theologian or a different one?
(If that one will be taken out soon)
I giant size version of Lord of The Rings!?!?! I must see this place.
