Praying Mantis perching on a baseball at a Tigers/Royals game.

Kansas City Royals’ Brayan Pena holds a baseball with a mantodea, more commonly known as a praying mantis, on it during the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Detroit Tigers in Detroit, Monday, Aug. 29, 2011.

I didn’t know those things got so big!
Mantis: “I must remind you; first I mate, THEN I kill.”
Beautiful mantis! He looks so tickled to have her sitting there, too.
Talk about big: once, stopping at a gas station in Kentucky, I saw a mantis that was, no exaggeration, the length of my forearm. I measured it against my arm, and it stood there calmly and watched me while I did it. It had a hurt leg, and was slowly making its way up the gas pump. The thing was huge, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was indeed looking at me, that it was large enough to recognize me as another creature instead of just an obstacle along its path.
Thank you for sharing, Elizabeth. I am smiling from the inside reading your post. For some reason it just made me happy. :)
definitely looks Photoshopped
Evidence, please.
I don’t think it looks Photoshopped, and I can’t think of any other good reason for him to hold the ball like that with that expression on his face, LOL!

Fantastic mantis! I think these are incredible creatures. They get inside our classrooms in the fall and the students “rescue” them by putting them into the vines outside the windows. They definitely look like the model for all those aliens we see in movies!
He got GREAT seats!
