Would you like to dismember an octopus?
(Extra points if you’re not tempted to comment something about how it should be “fewer.”)

No, but fewer legs would work
Yeah. I lose points, too. ;)
So then do you also lose points for wanting to point out that they’re not legs, they’re tentacles?
Arms, actually. It should be “fewer arms.” :P
I also thought immediately it should be fewer legs (before I read your warning!) but then realised that if someone tears off a strip the octopus wouldn’t lose a whole leg, so he would still have eight. But less leg generally. Or indeed less
tentacle.
That is a very good grammatical point. My brain has now stopped itching, thank you. ;)
That actually makes me feel better, thanks.
but then, it would be “Do you want this octopus to have less LEG?” not plural.
Right.
Fewer legs is grammatically correct.
Less leg is grammatically correct.
I think we’re looking at the latter. :)
Actually the “less” is correct as you’re not removing the whole “leg”, so it wouldn’t be fewer, but removing PART of the leg (which is what the strips are) is making it have “less tentacle”, but no whole tentacle is removed so it would not have “fewer”…
I would be tempted to correct it (removing the “S”) and then remove a strip anyway :-P
Will it still be an octopus without eight tentacles/legs/arms/tasty-treats?
