This almost made me cry. I loved his show as a child. The Neighborhood of Make-Believe was magical to me.
I don’t think that I understood how special he was until I was all grown up.

I almost cried too! I love Mister Rogers so much! I wish I had every episode on DVD– I would watch it all the time.

  3. JP says:

Aww, all choked up! I didn’t know you could get videos of him! Now I have to look. Bless his soul, wherever he is… <3

  4. Amanda says:

He aged well. The world will always be a little less without him in it.

  5. Amber says:

I LOVE this guy!! I heard once that interviewers hated (tongue in cheek) to have him on their show, because they could never get a question in edge wise – he just kept asking them about themselves! ;)

  6. Ben says:

Warm fuzzies all around. Is it possible to be cranky with Mr Rogers on? I don’t think so.

  7. Brian says:

His voice sounded better as he got older.

  8. Miranda says:

As a kid, Mr. Rogers creeped me out, big time. I mean, really, really creeped me out. If I had ever seen him on the street, I would have shrieked and run away. I have no idea what caused this reaction. But I’m sure I’m going to Hell for it.

I loved Mister Rogers! I totally grew up with his show, and was so happy when I had my son in 1991 because I could watch it again without people thinking I was weird. One of the higlights of my little kid life was meeting him in the North Hills Village shopping center in Pittsburgh when I was about 6 or 7. He talked to me exactly like he talked on the show and I walked away feeling like he really cared and would remember me. I cried for a day when he passed away.

Count me among the people who teared up. What a guy! Miss him.

I found the Make Believe segments to be creepy and boring. My favorite bits were the videos on thing were made.

I showed my 10 yr old a clip of Mr Rogers and this is what he asked, “If its such a beautiful day in the neighborhood why is he wearing a sweater?” Hmm..never thought about that before. ;)

I just spoke with someone who worked with Fred Rogers for several years. She assured me that he was as genuinely kind as he seems on his show. She said Candid Camera tried to catch him once by giving him a completely destroyed hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Beach. He politely helped the bellman dump the dust and paint chips off the bed cover, explaining, “I don’t need a bed cover anyway.” When the bellman apologized for the shredded curtains, he said, “Oh, I will enjoy the natural light.” Apparently, Fred Rogers was the real deal.

From all anecdotes I’ve ever heard Fred Roger’s was the real deal. It’s too bad the same can’t be said of “Family Communications, Inc.” as the video is no longer available due to copyright. Apparently they don’t want to be our neighbor.
