Colloquially, they’re called possums, we have them here in New Zealand too. Lovely, warm wool from their fur. Terrible pests in places killing native birds including kiwis as they like to eat the kiwi eggs :-(
Ours are spelled ‘opossum’, the ‘o’ in front is silent! No kidding.
I have Australlian Possum yarn. I don’t know what I’ll knit with it, but it’s supposed to be the warmest yarn because the fur is hollow.
