Most crossings in the UK beep. Most drivers don’t. There’s also often bumps on the sidewalk (or, as you’re supposed to call it, the pavement) next to crossing points. But I’m sure it varies from place to place, depending on what kind of budget your city has for the little things, like preventing people from getting flattened by trucks.
If I was blind I would definitely get a guide dog! They know how to ride public transit and cross the street, plus if you go down, then you go down together.
