5 faked pictures of world leaders kissing each other

Leave it to Benetton to come up with an advertising campaign like this.

Let’s start out with the most controversial…

And here are the rest of them…

Whether these pics are offensive is up for debate. But I think we can all agree that this campaign has very little to do with not hating. It is, of course, a simple ploy to get Benetton free advertisement … which I am very happy to participate in for the sake of an interesting post. :)

There’s nothing wrong with referencing famous images in advertising, but pretending that it’s an moral campaign seems kind of unethical. It also seems that they’re trying really hard to be controversial, which usually makes me think ‘meh’.

    What the heck is benetton?

It’s an Italian brand of clothing, much like The Gap

One of these needs to be George Bush and Osama bin Laden. Ooops.

really? every thinks this has nothing to do with the stated “unhate” concept? nothing about traditionally violently and diametrically opposed world leaders kissing speaks of peace to you? nothing about that fact that a main reason it’s controversial is the homosexual undertones – and if that makes you feel weird, maybe there’s a little hate to be exposed there? none of that makes sense to you? it’s obviously an advertising campaign… but it also appears to be, in some ways, guerrilla art. Like the gap ads with the gay fathers – it’s advertisement, but it’s also a statement of the company’s ideals.
