Kids climbing across a collapsed bridge to get to school

From The Telegraph…
Children hold on to the side bars of a collapsed bridge as they cross a river to get to school at Sanghiang Tanjung village in Indonesia. The flooded Ciberang river broke a pillar supporting the suspension bridge, which was built in 2001, on Monday….

Sofiah, a student crossing the bridge, says she would need to walk for an extra 30 minutes if she were to take a detour via another bridge.

Meanwhile, in the United States, a mother gripes incessantly that her kid’s bus is 7-minutes late.
Incredible. If only students in the US had the same kind of dedication and commitment to education.
Yeah but in the U.S., some public agency would have put up caution tape and blocked access because of the danger. And if they didn’t do an adequate job and some person fell into the water, there would be a lawsuit because of course it would be the governments fault that they were allowed to do that, so the taxpayers should definitely be liable!
that is so scary as a parent. so dangerous.
Kinda puts “uphill both ways in the snow” in its place, doesn’t it…
“STOP JUMPING!! I’m gonna fall! I’m REALLY gonna FALL!”
Dedication to education my butt. They are doing it because it’s fun. I know I would have done the same thing when I was a kid (and probably would join them now if I was there).
Haha, while I agree it does look like fun, if all they were interested in was fun they would probably spend their day going back and forth.
some rich person should fix the bridge… its not fair
Why should that fall to “some rich person”? o_O
Yeah! That’s a crazy idea. Charge ALL the rich people!
So, has anyone slipped and fallen in yet? What are the consequences? Crocodiles or parasites? Isn’t it worth it to them to take an extra 30 minutes? I guess their time is more important than a heightened chance of injury or death.
It probably takes 30 minutes to make their way across the bridge. And no it doesn’t look fun, I wouldn’t have done this as a kid.
My kid would walk the extra 30 minutes!
The lesson to be taken from this isn’t “poor children are more dedicated to getting an education” or “first-world people should stop complaining about lesser troubles”.
No, the lesson to be taken from this is that these particular children are obviously in dire need of a real education if they’re still too stupid to realize that literally risking their lives is not a good trade-off to avoid inconvenience, even if it is a large inconvenience.
notice how they carefully tread across the bridge rather than happily skip sideways…and notice how people here die of food while over there they die of things that are actually trying to kill them…
I want to help on the re-constrcution of this bridge, i need to know whom to contact. my contact is [email protected] or 0093-799313547
