Funny how they assumed everyone would still be wearing long skirts and pants. It looks like they expected us to revert back to court jester days. Note the flared out bells on the bottom of the 70′s fashions.
They didn’t think to project politics forward and predict two World wars, a giant leap forward in materials technology and siesmic change in lifestyles, but chose to assume all that would remain static, while just playing around with theatrical costumery
Do you mean to say that one submission in a magazine doesn’t speak for every single person of that era? GASP! Don’t worry, I’m sure 100 years from now, someone is going to pick up a COSMO magazine and make a very similar comment about it not containing politically meaningful content. There is always someone who does….
Well, they weren’t so far off when they got to the 1980′s… haha.
Beshrew me if I don’t see shades of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in ’78, either…
Exactly what I was thinking!
I wondered if they stole the designs for Yellow Submarine costumes.
They couldn’t even comprehend the immodesty to come…
Haha that’s what I was thinking lol
They were quite close on the women wearing pants ~ 1946-50 is when I see the big change both in these pictures and in history.
Oh yeah, all the hot girls were wearing pickelhauben in the 80s!
This was wildly optimistic about how unboringly people would dress.
I would suggest they just don’t understand the relative simplicity and subtlety of detail to come.
they all look like clowns, jesters, and Mary from Mary had a little lamb
my thoughts precisely!

So… Elton John got it right.
So that is where Gaga got her ideas!
I was waiting to see how long it took for a Lady Gaga comment to appear …
They all look like clowns and pilgrims…
They were a little early on the spikes I think…spikes on the hats, spiky hair…
damn, they got my outfit designs perfectly :-P
They never doubted that smoking would remain in vogue.
Nothing compliments an eye-catching clown outfit like a fashionably adorned 6 foot shepherd’s crook.
They didn’t think to project politics forward and predict two World wars, a giant leap forward in materials technology and siesmic change in lifestyles, but chose to assume all that would remain static, while just playing around with theatrical costumery
Tom K.
Oh, come on! This is just one example of a future prediction in a specific subject. You seem to say this is all the Victorian era produced.

Lady gaga must never see this…..
I wonder why they assumed a huge transformation in 1905-8, then going back to “normal”.
hehn henh KLP said pickelhauben
Someone sucked at understanding the principles of fashion cycle.
