Bald Barbie

In response to a campaign for a “Bald and Beautiful Barbie” especially for girls who are undergoing cancer treatments, Mattel announced today

…[N]ext year we will be producing a fashion doll, that will be a friend of Barbie, which will include wigs, hats, scarves and other fashion accessories to provide girls with a traditional fashion play experience. For those girls who choose, the wigs and head coverings can be interchanged or completely removed.

The dolls will be distributed to hospitals but not sold in stores.

No one has commented on this yet… but I like this ^_^

I think they should be sold in stores as well! It may reinforce that those girls are different if they have a special doll from the hospital, or maybe girl’s who aren’t sick know an older family member who is… and there’s always the chance that some girls will grow up to just want short/shaved hair, so why not have the option in a doll :)

I LOVE the idea that they’re being handed out at hospitals, but I absolutely agree that they should be sold in stores as well, but all proceeds go to a charity, like children’s cancer research.
