To say they are of different races is a bit naive and ill-informed…there is the human race and differentiation within that…We are not different races.
Oh brother.
to say that there aren’t races of humanity that differ is naive and ill-informed. “there are neither men of women, just people” “children and adults, they are all people”… Shut up
Spot onnnnnnn!
No she’s right. Race doesn’t technically exist. Male and female exist but race is very different race has no genetic basis. From an evolution stand point humans have not been around long enough to separate into species or races. Two chinese people will be just as genetically different from each other as a person of chinese descent or someone of native american descent.

Don’t be so picky.
Science is oftentimes very picky. I know it gets in the way of people’s cherished stupidity, but some of us actually feel better knowing the truth.
That’s really nice to try and say, and believe me, I’m all for diversity, but genetic differences between people of different ethnicities DO exist and are undeniable. Case in point: skin color. skin color is determined by genetic inheritance. people from different global regions (see: ethnicities/cultures/races) have different colored skin. ergo, there is a genetic component to race. duhhhhhh
If you don’t like that one, try looking up the fact that people of african descent are well-nigh impervious to melanoma. this is not a mutation obtained by exposure to radioactive waste (see: superpower) its a genetic correlation to race/ethnic background.
You’re assuming that species and race are the same thing. They’re not. This is akin to saying that “there is no chihuahua or bulldog, there are just dogs!” We have classifications for things for a reason. Does being from Africa or the Middle East or Northern Europe make you any more or less of a person? Of course not, but it’s generally convenient to classify things. This includes race, based on very real genetic factors. Africans have thicker hair and darker skin because of their genetics. Someone from Norway has much less pigment in their skin due to his/her genetics. People living high in the Andes mountains have been found to have larger lungs and oxygen absorption capacity than normal people, linked to a genetic trait and not a developed one.
There’s something to be said for tolerance and equity for all, but parsing people out into different races is something you would logically do to tell people apart. Discrimination on the basis of race, however, is crossing the line. All this political correctness attacking America is bullshit and I’m sick of it.
Tell that to medicine then. Certain ethnic backgrounds are more susceptible to different diseases than others, and I’m not speaking of environmental factors economically or socially (like T2 diabetes or high blood pressure), I’m talking genetics. E.g.> African Americans are more susceptible to sickle cell anemia, European decent is prone to skin cancer (lack of melanin), alcoholism is most prominent in Native American and Aboriginals, etc. It could point to regional evolutions (adapting to environment), which is why when a new area was conquered by a different ethnic group, say, Spain conquering the tribes of Mexico, many tribesmen were wiped out due to diseases they were previously unexposed to. Their genes weren’t given the chance to develop antibodies and mutate their genes accordingly to deal with the new infection.
Race and species aren’t nearly the same thing. There are different breeds of dogs–they look different, but they’re all still dogs…
Agree one hundred percent. It’s stupid how we classify ourselves as different races purely by the color of our skin or where we reside.
How is that naive and ill-informed? The fact of the matter is that there are genetic differences between races of people, and those differences manifest themselves in many ways (skin color/type, hair color/type, body build, etc.). We as humans didn’t create these different classifications systems out of some need to codify things, we discovered the actual, observable differences in genetic make up between races. What you’re saying sounds more akin to the term “species.”
Yes we are different races within the human race. Should any one race be treated as superior because of it? No. Here are the definitions of the word
RACE:
1. a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.
2. a population so related.
3. Anthropology .
a. any of the traditional divisions of humankind, the commonest being the caucasian, Mongoloid, and Negro, characterized by supposedly distinctive and universal physical characteristics: no longer in technical use.
b. an arbitrary classification of modern humans, sometimes, especially formerly, based on any or a combination of various physical characteristics, as skin color, facial form, or eye shape, and now frequently based on such genetic markers as blood groups.
c. a human population partially isolated reproductively from other populations, whose members share a greater degree of physical and genetic similarity with one another than with other humans.
4. a group of tribes or peoples forming an ethnic stock: the Slavic race.
5. any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc.: the Dutch race.
Race is real, but it’s mostly a social construct. Between the 18th and 20th centuries, there were anywhere between 3 to 6 “races.” The Mongol, Caucasoid, Negroid terms are totally inaccurate because there are also the Australoid (Polynesian). Then some considered South Americans to be another separate group. Irish and Italians were originally considered “mixed” or clumped with Africans. East Indians are Caucasians, but throughout history they’ve been reassigned to different categories. Arabs were once considered the same category as white Europeans, but now they’re not.
Race is a social construct because the genetic difference of race between two people of different races is smaller than the genetic difference between two people of the same race. If people can be considered different races due to genetics, then every single person would be his own separate race.

Ill-informed? I am almost certain that “human” is a species, and that there are different races within that species: Negroid, Caucasoid, and Mongoloid were the three historically accepted races.
This story is pretty cool.

How can two african american people give birth to a VERY white skinned girl and who also has blue eyes. I’m sure it’s a hoax
its called genetics… and the punnet square. To Biracial parents can create children of completely different skin tone. While uncommon, these are not the only set of twins like htis
They would look identical if their coloring was the same. Genetics works in odd ways. There are instances of light skinned couples having a dark skinned child, and the other way around. If there was a Caucasian in their ancestry, it’s not odd at all!
Because ONLY Black people can produce all races. Which is why racists such as white supremist’s and the like in America is so ironic. The human race today evolved from an African woman. Scientists found the fossil remains and named her “Eve”.
Caucasoid’s cannot produce color pigmented off spring because they lack the genes that create that variety of color.
It isn’t a hoax. And they aren’t African Americans. I believe they are British and both parents have mixed ancestry. It’s all in how the genes shuffle themselves, and I think it’s extremely cool. As others have said, we’re all people. Skin color is an adaptation, nothing else. The sooner we all understand that, the better.
While the odds are quite astronomical, it is actually quite feasible. All humans carry the same genetic material within a margin of less than .01%. Of the so-called “Races” the last out of Africa group (Negroid :) ) have the highest level of variation. Genes can be turned on and off from generation to generation and become dominant where those genes may have be recessive for years.
Further, your idea that “African Americans” couldn’t do this… is actually quite even more possible… generations of Africans living in America were subjected to Breeding practices and Also to interbreeding (even though it wasn’t talked about… read up on the extended family of Thomas Jefferson as an example)… to put it bluntly…. one or both of these “African Americans” may have a skeleton in the closet in the form of the Ol’ Massa who would take Great gramma around back of the barn. Case in point… a friend of mine, who you would never in a million years think had Black Ancestors, came down with Sickle cell anemia… a disease that “Whites” don’t get….. ya right… a little research told him, he was at least part Black.
To summarize… it is possible, in a number of ways. This is why the thinking today is that Race is primarily a Social construct.
Under the skin… we are all the same.
They are both of mixed race….
It’s true, trust me. I’ve also seen instances where two white people gave birth to a black kid. In such cases it turns out that one or the other parent, or sometimes both, had some ancestor of a different race back in the day, and it all came out in that child.
The parents are bi-racial. That’s how they were able to have twin girls where one has dark skin and dark eyes and the other has light skin and light eyes.
@ Christine, if you actually READ the article you would answer your own question. Both parents are mixed, having a white mother and black father. The fact that they had one black and one white twin may be a million to one but if you apply simple math to the genetics its not so implausible. The parents obviously carry both genes and were blessed with the best of both cultures in their twins. One of each. If only the rest of the planet were so blind as those little girls are to skin colour and race.
All I see are 2 beautiful little girls & very blessed parents.
Thank you, Diane, for seeing this family clearly. As just that, a family. Not a science experiment or a genetic anomaly, a family.
This surprisingly is the dumbest/most naive post in this entire thread.
Clearly this doesn’t happen every day and if the family is ok with sharing that then why do we have to have to ignore it?
Exactly. I’m sure the family itself thinks of themselves as special, so it’s laughable when other people come in shouting LALALALA NOTHING TO SEE HERE, NOPE, NOTHING SPECIAL GOING ON in some sort of attempt to make themselves… what? Look more open-minded? Tolerant? Color-blind?
People overreact to racism and think they any observation of race differentiation whatsoever is out of bounds, and end up depriving themselves of so much beauty and joy.
This is simply awesome. Genetics is one of mother nature’s most interesting and least predictable traits. Those are some cute kids and you can tell they are very proud to have them and I would too!
Oh, they have different skin colours? I don’t see colour.
Sometimes I think being “anti race” is just as ignorant as being racist. Of course there are things that make us different. Who would want to all be exactly the same? I’m a right handed, brown haired, green eyed girl that’s only 5’4 and I love when people are shocked to find that the 6ft blonde haired blue eyed left handed guy next to me is my brother. Neither of these girls are better or worse because they’re different. They’re amazing BECAUSE they’re different and anyone ignoring that is missing out on some amazing stuff in the word.

Ask the mother where she’s been!
That’s a nasty thing to say. Shame on you.
With the father. Both parents are bi-racial.
I saw an episode on Maury (I think it was) with a set of grown twins from England and one was white and his brother was black.
Beautiful girls! I hope they have a life filled with love and happiness and can use their unique gift to help spread it around. We need it!
People who have no idea how DNA works then you’re lost. Is not too late to learn new things.
Human species are very interesting.
I’m tanned and my child looks so different than I do. She is very pretty and I’m not.
How does that happen? My great grand parents were good looking people. My mother married an ugly guy. Lol.
Two beautiful, healthy, young girls… two proud parents, that s what I see… and mother nature shows us how she likes to play (genes).
