We are not, sadly, forced to learn Latin in the UK – quite the reverse in fact. State schools must follow the curriculum, which doesn’t include Latin (other than post-14 and then few schools offer it). Private/Public schools don’t have to follow the curriculum and the rich, fee-paying, students at these schools often learn Latin (AFAICS, as an option unless at the really posh schools like Eton or Harrow). They do it as it does wonders for your English (grammar, vocab, understanding of older literature) and likewise the languages that rely more on Latin.

Then again, I’m not surprised to see him spreading misconceptions about the Brits – if you watch this and his other videos, he doesn’t seem to have forgiven us for those jokes about Napoleon, for beating him at Trafalgar and Waterloo and distancing ourselves from wanting a repeat of his tyranny (including not imposing the metric system on people that don’t want it and not wanting to be part of a European super-state, preferring to ‘sit in the mid-Atlantic’).
