Reminds me of a scene in the movie “Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” where Paul Newman (I believe) played Judge Roy Bean and he has to apologize to some women who were whores but now led “respectable” lives for calling them whores. He goes through a whole list of what he could have said. Pretty funny.
“I understand you have taken exception to my calling you whores. I’m sorry. I apologize. I ask you to note that I did not call you ‘callous-ass strumpets’, ‘fornicatresses’, or ‘low-born gutter sluts’. But I did say ‘whores.’ No escaping that. And for that slip of the tongue, I apologize.”
