At least we know they have access to condoms. To bad they don’t use them as intended and AIDS still is rising there like no where else. Anyone got a banana?

    • Mary says:

Rachelle, I’m not sure what you are trying to say… you DO know that there are multiple cultures in Africa? That it’s a continent? And what’s with the “banana” comment? You sound like an ignorant racist; I hope that’s not the case.

      • Daniel says:

To those of disliking Rachelles comment – ever tried teaching someone to put on a condom? Unless it’s in a VERY intimate setting, you dont want to use “the real deal” to roll the condom on. A banana is a great stand in :-)

While condoms are availabale in Africa, it isn’t used as much as one would wish, partly due to bad economy and the catholic church.

    • Tristan says:

What Mary said. Forgive my ignorance but can condoms even stops AIDS/HIV? I thought that the disease was smaller than the membrane of the latex and can pass through.

      • Marci says:

I don’t know where you heard that but I don’t think it’s true. The disease is transferred through certain bodily fluids and because the latex is waterproof the disease can’t get through either.

That being said, I knew someone would make a comment like what Rachelle said as soon as I watched this video. I’m just sorry that it had to be the first one.

      • Chelsi says:

I’m a biochemist. The latex barrier indeed does reduce the chance of viral transmission. This is why condoms also provide protection against things like herpes and hepatitis B, in addition to HIV. They aren’t perfect though.

    • Mark says:

Is the banana for you? I don’t think you should be getting treats when your grammar is atrocious and your ignorance is showing. Also, Chelsi is correct; condoms, when used properly, can protect against viral transmission through bodily fluids and can reduce the chance of pregnancy.

Another note, for the curious: HIV isn’t a magic bullet, in fact your body is able to fight off small numbers of the HIV virus, and HIV carriers are only at their most contagious when first infected and when HIV transitions and when the infected person is afflicted with AIDS. Just having HIV doesn’t mean your immune system is shot… yet.

  2. lillieb says:

I agree with you Mary. Rachelle, how cynical of you, your ignorance is showing.
I look at the same video and was moved, it brought a smile to my face, at how the littlest thing can bring joy to children.

  3. shambra says:

lillieb, you’re right, happiness is the point.. And for you all who talk about AIDS, HIV and bodily fluids, have you ever seen children playing???? They and the people who lives in Africa are not subjects of the “make the world healthier” project. People won’t change their habits (especially sexual habits)just because others say it’d be better for them. (Will you?)
To inform you more, using condome means distrust in Africa…
