Should be a period after “Should be a comma after grammar.”
My grammar was never in a comma; she died of old age……
When you only get 140 characters to express yourself, I think lack of punctuation is forgiven (if only very slightly forgiven). I’m with Piers. Apathy and laziness are no excuses for poor grammar. The problem is the majority of native English-speaking Americans have absolutely no clue they’re incorrectly speaking or writing.
It should be “THERE should be a comma after grammar.”
Also MissAnneThrope, your linguistic elitism is duly noted and written off with disgust.
Linguistic elitism? A bit harsh, don’t you think? Admittedly, I don’t know to which linguistically elitist moment Jim Gaffigan is referring, but I’d be willing to bet that considering Piers Morgan’s job and the people he interviews, they should (being in the public eye, as it were) know how to speak.
I don’t correct people’s grammar ALL the time, only sometimes. I also correct it when they’re expressing unjustifiable stupidity or ignorance because it’s easy to piss those kinds of people off. Needless to say, I’m enough of an a**hole to be amused by it.
An example of inappropriately trying to correct someone’s grammar would’ve been when Kurt Loder from MTV pointed out to Jewel she mis-used a word in context in one of her poems. She called him an a**hole. I’d have to agree at that point.
I don’t see how she is being elitist when she said that lack of punctuation may be forgiven? Also, she is correct. My mother was an english teacher and she taught me never to be lazy in my writing and speech. Do I occasionally make mistakes? yes, but by being knowledgeable about things such as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and proper word usage, I find that I have an easier time avoiding confusion in conversation. Also, I do feel that most Americans are severely under educated in the current generations.
Did it cross anyone’s mind that perhaps the comma was missing on purpose?
Your all wrong. It should say “THEIR should be a coma after grandma.”
Winning.
Piers needs to be spelt ‘Adolf’, due to being Twitter’s resident grammar nazi.
Oh and that’s the most affectionate and polite nickname he’s been given by us Brits (which are typically based on four letter words).
I cannot stand when people do this. I hate Know-It-Alls and Grammar Nazi’s are the highest level of Know-It-Alls.
