Favorite casting in the list is Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. Although the rest should do well too. And depending on how good she is in The Dark Knight Rises, it seems like Anne Hathaway is proving she really can act quite well. Finally, I’m really glad this is based on the musical, because I would have been a bit disappointed if they were remaking this movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119683/) only 15 years later and with all those actors still around. This way, there should be two excellent movie versions worth watching.

I’m not a movie person, but I am looking forward to this one!

  3. Kay says:

Did not know the Dictator could sing… And Anne Hathaway? Looking forward to it!

I saw on some preview that they all sung live during the filming and that Anne Hathaway really does get her real hair chopped off.

  5. Catherine says:

    Train wreck.

  6. Carla says:

Anne’s voice desperately needs work. Her pitch was off, her vibrato lacks strength, and her breathing control is amateur. This song is obviously too big for her. If this is any indication of the rest of the cast, I will not be seeing this movie. I’d like my ears not to bleed, thank you very much. The only one who has the training for this kind of material is Hugh Jackman.

There’s a saying about “Les Miserables”: If you can’t do it great, don’t do it at all.

umm. actually anne hathway was classically trained ages ago and can sing really well. its just that the theatrical way that this song should/can be sung is from the depths of despair. singing is an art… u don’t have to make it sound like a beautiful bird unless you want it to. she’s obviously crying in this part not covering up that she can’t sing…a true actor and artist. don’t judge other people’s interpretation of an art. (in a interview anne said she thought it would be selfish to sing the “pretty version”)

  7. Paul Huxley says:

Carla – disagree. This song is meant to be sung desperately and from a position of weakness. It’s deeply annoying when people try to sing it like opera with strong wobbly vibrato all over the place.

    • Andrew says:

What was that sorry? It’s annoying when they sing it properly — like a singer?

Having classical training, and a healthy vibrato, doesn’t mean one can’t sing from a ‘position of weakness’ and desperation.

A well trained voice can deliver these nuances better, and to better effect, than the heartless way in which you are portraying countless talented people in MT. I’m not into musical theatre myself, I’m a classical baritone — just wanted you to know I’ve not got a dog in this fight.
