Republican Mike Bost is not happy with the way things are going down in the Illinois House of Representatives. And while he’s totally losing it, nobody else gives a damn…

Best line…”we live in a democracy, but not here”

  2. Joel Burdeaux says:

    I wouldn’t say they didn’t give a damn… A couple looked slightly amused.

  3. Rhonda says:

I would TOTALLY vote for this guy. He seems like he actually still cares about his constituents. I hope he gets through to somebody, someday.

  4. Julie says:

That’s actually awesome! And I’m no Republican… I think most Americans are feeling this sentiment, no matter what side you’re on. Good on him!

  5. Noreen says:

Hey, here’s living proof that the U.S. needs a complete overhaul of its political system so that it turns into a parliamentary system like other democracies around the world, because giving too much power (like the power to veto everything) to ONE PERSON is wrong. That isn’t democracy, that’s a dictatorship. ***One person, one vote…. that’s democracy***

    • AStev says:

Haha, awesome. This is how all politics used to be back in the day.

Unfortunately, Noreen, onerous parliamentary procedures are the exact exasperating thing that he’s got an issue with.

      • epy says:

Umm actually while the president has the power to veto, congress has the power to overturn that veto…and something that is signed into law…the supreme court has the power to cut that down.

        • Rigby the Shepherd says:

Also, sadly, because of the electoral college it doesn’t actually end up being ‘one person, one vote’ -at least not in the presidential elections.

  6. Joanna says:

I live in So IL where this guy is from and where he represents. This kind of tantrum is long over due. And it is totally sad that the people around him look mostly apathetic.

    • sarah says:

i live there too, and i completely agree with you!!! the girl rolling her eyes, what is that about? come on and be passionate about your job. :P

  7. Brent Hobbs says:

Long overdue is exactly right. We need more like this guy.

  8. Paul says:

Im glad this guy lost it. Seriously, what is up with all the restrictions. Love his sincerity.

  9. 888 says:

It’s reassuring to know that at least *one* politician isn’t a robot nor a zombie

  10. Faith says:

Right on. This reminds me of Mr. Smith goes to Washington. His voice even reminds me of Jimmy Stewart’s. I wish he got applauded afterwards or something. Anything.

  11. Ben says:

Does anyone wonder why Illinois is one of th most corrupt states in the union? At least this guy cares. Everyone else just seems content to collect tax dollars from hard working middle class, pass a couple of bills to make their campaign donors happy and their districts, and going home at noon. I can’t wait to move out of Illinois.

  12. Doreen says:

Sorry, but that’s just pathetic. Just one more guy who can’t take plurality of opinion and is frustrated not everyone is agreeing with him. All this whining about “the people” – who do NOT EXIST as a uniform entity – not being represented, or “THE people” wanting this or that. That is what is infuriating – people like that guy, who cannot take disagreement, who cannot stand their opinion being overruled, pretending to know what THE people or even HIS constituents want: Dude, just because you got elected does not mean you own them. Nor that everyone of them agrees with what you’re saying or doing. You’re supposed to make political choices on their behalf, contribute to reasoned debate on their behalf to the best of your abilities. If that display is all you can do, you don’t belong in parliament, but in kindergarten. Attitude like a three-year-old.

    • Angie says:

Did you not understand that he was handed 200 pages the read fifteen minutes before they were supposed to vote? How is he supposed to make even a half assed attempt at a semi reasonable guess on what his constituents might want done? That is the point of this, and that is what the rant is about. He’s angry because he can’t even begin to do what you are saying he should do when the environment allows massive important things to be dropped on their heads at the last second. This is how corruption works. Trying to ram things through without giving the representatives the chance to even look at what is happening.

    • Reyface says:

      Hey…Doreen…you’re an idiot.
      Enjoy your sheeple government. Moron.

      • Doreen says:

Oh, how cute. Another child. :) Now that’s really mature … LOL.

        • Reyface says:

Child, mature, eh, big insults. I’d rather be anything and everything except for a snobby holier-than-thou simple sheeple. One who apparently can’t see the forest for the trees. ‘PEOPLE YELLING OMG BAD’ seems to be your general opinion. Failure to take everything else into consideration because of the snowball effect of your ego…Sigh.
Ah, well. The world needs more individuals to lie down and take the buttrape of the retarded decisions of government.
          Have fun sitting down, lemming.

    • Cameron says:

“Just one more guy who can’t take plurality of opinion and is frustrated not everyone is agreeing with him.”

      I don’t think that was his point….

“Dude, just because you got elected does not mean you own them.”

True, but it does mean he represents them… so comments like ““THE people” wanting this or that.” Is totally understandable, because he is the closest thing “the people(or “constituents”)” have to a unified voice.

Systems get corrupt, and they usually do not get fixed until someone goes against the flow and stands up for change…. Haven’t you ever been inspired by a movie like, Gladiator or the Patriot?

If our founders followed this logic your using , then we wouldn’t be a country.

      • Doreen says:

No, that wasn’t his point, and yes, there are many, many problems with the political system. But – I think it was Churchill who said democracy is the worst political system, except for all the others? Yes, he represents his constituents, but representative democracy does not mean trying to do what your constituents want or think they want – precisely because they are rarely, if ever, unanimous on anything (and nobody is elected by all their constituents, anyway), but what is best for them and for the common good *in the judgment of the elected person*. So from my representative, I don’t want to hear things framed to please me, but I want him to listen to me, and my fellow constituents, then go look at the facts, then form an informed opinion of what might ideally be done, then go and work with the other representatives (of constituents, and interest groups etc.) for the best compromise possible. And I am always going to be aware that that’s all I am going to get – a compromise. Because it’s never going to be just about me.

What I don’t want from my representative is for him to rant and scream and jump up and down, because in the end, that is not going to help me – what did that guy change with respect to the bill in question, exactly? Nothing. A few people are going to watch the video, and we’re having a small discussion here, that’s it. More people are going to be alienated and dismiss him as an idiot, costing him respect and political clout and his constituents influence in the process. I pay my representative to do his best, not his worst, and to handle his frustration and apply whatever skills he has in the political process to try and achieve what he judges is the best that can be negotiated. So no, I am not impressed by that sort of stunt. I am much more impressed by the people who are tenacious, who sit down and deal with the nitty-gritty detail, who may speak quietly but do the work to *convince* others with serious arguments and come up with a workable solution. Like the founders, who aren’t famous for their rants and shouting matches.

  13. Jean says:

I kind of like this guy! At least he has the courage to stand up and let his fellow ‘representatives’ know that he’s mad as hell and is’t going to take it any more. We need more like him and less sheep!

    • Doreen says:

Yeah, because yelling and throwing things and jumping up and down and pouting like a small child is *really* going to help dealing with issues. So he was frustrated with the rules, and yes, ALL parties try to manipulate the rules as much as they possibly can to their advantage, but the rules are there for a reason: because without them, it is impossible for people of such different convictions to even communicate, let alone to jointly making decisions, as required by democracy. If you’re unhappy with the rules, convince enough people that there’s something wrong with them, and you get to change them. Otherwise, you’re a minority opinion, and guess what – in a democracy, that means you do not get to rule.

  14. This is how I react when people in my office don’t agree with me on where to order pizza. ”we live in a democracy, but not here”

  15. bbweis says:

So right. I am completely apolitical currently (which means I am neither Republican, democrat, liberal, or conservative, and no, i am not an anarchist), but this is exactly how I feel whenever I have to deal with any of the crap in our government. I totally agree with him. This is also the reason why I would never go into politics; I would be screaming my head off at every one.
