Thrift store monsters — Adding fantastical creatures to second-hand art
Artists Chris McMahon and Thyrza Segal both enjoy buying cheap, old, schmaltzy paintings at thrift shops and then adapting them to be schmaltzy-but-with-monsters…

I love McMahon’s pictures! Too funny.
However, while Segal’s are also very creative, there seems to be a theme of long-tentacled, big-eyed creatures that kind of got creepy after the first few…
Fantastical! I am now kicking myself for passing up that schmaltzy, but nicely framed print at Sav-n-Share Thrift Shop today Drats! It would have been just the thing as it had a lovely black velvet background and featured a beautiful bridge subtly highlighted with florescent colors which is perfect for schmaltzy-but-with-monsters!
This is great! I wish I could do this.
Hi, where can one buy original MacMahon artwork? I have tried searching the web to no avail. thanks
Hi, I just wanted to say that I put a new batch of altered thrift store art online the other day- The series is called Alien Vacation and depicts the various activities that aliens might want to engage in whilst on holidays on our fair planet: http://imgur.com/a/uUWcP
