The first webcam was invented to watch a coffee pot

In 1991, some folks in the computer labs at the University of Cambridge developed the first webcam. What motivated this revolutionary invention, you ask?

They wanted to make it easier for people in different parts of the building to know if there was any coffee made in the break room.

A live image of the coffee pot (the same size as the one posted here) was available for people to see on their desktop computers. No more excuses for ambling off for coffee just to kill time…
