McDonald’s shows why your actual food looks different than it does in ads

The folks in the marketing department for Canada’s McDonald’s restaurants take us behind the scenes of a hamburger photo shoot and compare the result to an actual burger that they bought at a restaurant. While they obviously aren’t going to badmouth their product, the video still feels surprisingly honest…

“Aboout” Loved listening to her accent.

    A) She clearly doesn’t eat that product, for her to be looking how she does.

    B) The ketchup looks clearly “squirted” to me, and does not fit in with the rest of the `perfection`

    C) I’ve heard that some companies use wax models for photo-shoots. Anyone else heard this?

it is bad for me, I KNOW…but i want to eat it anyway (sans oignons). consequently, without onions here in belgium runs me about an extra 5-8 minute wait. trust me when there is a lack of familiar food that is consistent in taste you run, not walk, to the nearest american embassy. oddly enough, the mcdon’s here (waterloo, belgium) is pretty high class. i know high class and mcdon’s is an oxymoron.

I am a photographer, and it is true that most companies use wax, glue, glycerin spray and even cigarette smoke to simulate steam. This is probably the closest to the real thing I’ve ever seen used in food photography. I will note that is is McDonald’s CANADA, in the US it is probably wax and glue and such. That being said I congratulate McDonald’s Canada for using real product, that takes balls.

  7. Heather says:

Not sure about Canada, but in the US, you HAVE to use the actual product in advertising. No fake or plastic burgers in the ads. That is illegal.

  8. Jenny says:

Honest as it may be, it’s just McDonald’s way of scoring a brownie point with the public, answering a negative with a positive. They’re saying “see, the burger you get actually IS what we advertise!” … all the while politely ignoring the fact that their crap is really bad for you. Oh, and that lady in the video? She probably never eats one of those burgers in her life. Don’t be fooled!!
