Pick a number between 1 and 10 — A creative way to tip generously

I suppose on a bigger bill, this game could lead to a stingy tip, but that element of risk would just make it that much more fun…

Holy crap, seriously? Or is this tipping advice for the 1%?
It’s great people do stuff like this and that other story about the guys dying wish for his family to leave $500. Servers are typically people just trying to make it through college and in lots of states they only make around $2 or $3 an hour so tips like this make a huge difference. Also, if you think it’s an easy job it’s not – people can be very demanding, rude and treat you like a 2nd rate sub-human.
I don’t get it… did the waiter write the 7? I’m pretty sure that is illegal.
No the custo
Sorry, replying gets screwy on the iphone.
Meant to say, No, the customer simply asked the server to pick a number at the end of the meal, and they were willing to pay that tip (with a zero on the end).
Minimum wage in Canada ranges from 9.50 – 11 per hour, in Australia it’s 15 per hour. Tips are not allowed to be part of that, but are paid on top. So there’s a huge difference, and a reason why Canadians and Australians are stereotyped as lousy tippers.
It isn’t a stereotype. It’s a choice to tip appropriately (or not) and everyone knows the deal. When I go to another country I inquire about the wages from locals and do research online so that I make informed decisions. Unless you want to pay $25 for a burger or pass legislation to pay servers a living wage, then yes, yes you do have to tip.
Based on the address at the top of the bill, this took place in Lexington, KY.
The receipt is actually from a b-b-q restaurant in Houston, Texas.
in many parts of america, although not in my state, it is legal for servers to be paid LESS than minimum wage because of the tips they receive, which means that the government EXPECTS TIPS TO COMPENSATE for the wages that servers are not receiving. Which is very often not the case. On top of that, servers are now taxed on the small tips they DO make which means that at the end of the year they do not receive much of their income taxes back. Servers are also treated like sub humans by their patrons because for some reason americans have this mentality that just because they are paying for a service, they get to act like fucking assholes. So please, tip your server.
