5 friends pose for the same picture every 5 years for 30 years
in 1982, 5 guys at a cabin on Copco Lake in California posed for a picture. Nothing unusual about that…

They continued getting together there every year, and in 1987 they thought it would be be funny to recreate that old 1982 picture. Again, not terribly unusual…

Then 1992 came, and the guys were still friends and were still making their yearly trip to the lake. When they posed for the same pic for the third time, they knew a tradition had been born…

1997…

2002…

2007…

2012…

Will they meet again for the photo in 2017? John Dickson (far right) says…
We plan on doing this for the rest of our lives, no matter what — Up until there’s one guy just sitting in the same pose! Even then, maybe someone will take a picture of an empty bench for us.
Check out the guys’s site about these pics. Read the story on CNN.
* * * * *

I see a big difference from 1997 to 2002, and my age now is probably what they were in 1997. Sheesh, now I know what I have to look forward to. Great idea, though, and it’s awesome they’re able to stay committed to their friendship this way!
The guy on the far left looks like House in the last photo.
that is precisely what i thought!
Roadhouse
lol
that guy holding the cup looks like the principal Mr Belding from Saved by the Bell
lol I thought the exact same thing! But I thought it more for the 2002 picture.
I thought he kinda looked like Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) in ’02, ’07, and ’12!
Friends for Ever … :)
This is really nice, when people are able to see ageing and lasting friendship keep on guys…
Hey they aged pretty well! I wanna do something like that!
The order is wrong. The pics for 2002 and 2007 are reversed.
omg thank you. i was tripping out that people might age that much in 5 years lol.
THIS IS A MUST READ!!! It is time for our share of the handouts. Just check this out. GOOGLE the term ” RICH PENNY TRICK ” and click the first site. Then click on the PENNY STOCK page to see what the rich are hiding from us. It is time we all get our share and this will help. If you want cash, then this will get you there. If you want to see how some of these yahoos made their millions off of us, then this is a must see!
trippy…
Notice, too, how after 1987 the shirts stay on … as reality sets in …
U can always buy at a souvenir shop :D
I notice how tan you were in the beginning and how white you became at the end. Must be caused by the same reason you keep your shirts on. lol
Guy 2nd from the left can’t figure out how he wants his hair.
Yeah, he definitely has been the most adventurous.
That’s exactly what I noticed too
I was going to comment about the same thing – He’s a trend setter or follower that one.
Now I want to get in my time maching to go back and do this with MY friends! (I wonder how much this tradition inspires them to keep in shape. They all look great! I love the year the guy went from grey to blond again.)
The pics from 2002 and 2007 are reversed. So no, he didn’t really go back to blond again.
The second guy from left to right has huge legs, anybody else notice?
you know what that means.
Huge jeans?
Obvi.
The guy in the middle was in the same shorts from 1997-2012.
The guy on the right is in the same shirt as well.
In a few more years, there won’t be much of a view. Those trees / bushes are starting to overgrow.
Aaaw! That’s so sweet! I see they replaced the fence; glad they didn’t replace any of the guys…
It took 20 years for anyone to smile….then only 2 did. :-)
cool!
Great Idea Guys, hope you all have many more years for this same photo.
This is awesome!!! Love it..
Very good written story. It will be helpful to everyone who utilizes it, as well as me. Keep doing what you are doing – looking forward to more posts.
wow.. so awesome to see them doing this every 5 years… I hope they will forever live to do this,.
The guy on the left started out looking like Taylor Hawkins, and ended up looking like House.
This is freakin awesome.
awesome posing …
I love this story. It made me smile. I wish them another thirty years of picture-taking. Thank you for doing it and brightening my morning.
Thats so cool. Good thing they stayed friends for that long!
My mother and her four sisters have done this type of photograph for the last twenty years or so. When ever all five of them are at a family event, inevitable someone says “Sister photo time!”. Pretty cool stuff…
the last guy on the left wore the same shirt three times. wonder if it really is the same shirt, he would have kept it for fifteen years. awesome.
The guy second from left looks completely different every time
geez! the last 5 years must have been pretty rough on them!
the guy in the middle in 1992 gave his shorts to the guy with the jar in 1997
that’s an awesome way to put it!
From 2002 to 2007 it looks like they lost weight.
This is awesome, my friends and I are in our early twenties, I think we may have to start something like this.
The guy on the far left looks like House. But only in the last pic.
So true lol
that’s great! My college roommates and I take a trip every year and we usually try to get a photo of all of us each year. But we didn’t think to do the same pose.
Best Friends for Ever … :)
The one dude wore the same shorts for 20 years!
this is the funniest thing everrr!!!! love the idea wanna do it with my friends!
1997 to 2002 is the biggest difference. Makes you realize how quickly time flies and how we got to make the most of what the world offers to us and cherish every memory.
The pics from 2002 and 2007 are swapped. They’re not in the right order. That might explain it.
Really, the guy second from left looks another person every time.
Greetings
#win for the Red Meat t-shirt! ;)
The guy holding the jar is hot and only gets hotter as he gets older, lol. Mama like
Just noticed this pic tells you who got married…but yet also divorced.
Are the 2002 and 2007 pics the wrong way round – looks like they aged too much then miraculously got younnger again. They all look fab though – they have aged well in the 30 years.
Yea I think so.
GUY ON FAR LEFT REMINDS ME OF DR.HOUSE LOL
I’m in tears looking at this great idea just don’t have friend alive I want to do this with.
It’s kind of crazy watching them age in digital form like that. Glad I got to see this!
You can see the trees get taller.
they managed to take a bad picture every year but one. what happened?
The guy in the middle had the same shorts on for four pictures. What a champ. 20 years in one pair of shorts.
2002 and 2007 look like they should be reversed.
What a fantastic idea! Great way for friends to bond and remember times throughout the years.
My Dad and 2 his friends have been doing this every decade for about the last 50 years. They can’t do it on a yearly basis as of them lives in Australia now. But he is old 70+ year old man now and the 1st picture taken he is in his 20′s
I loved them. May they meet again on 2017 that’s my prayer.
i simply say, this is belong to true relationship and habits what they have keep in their whole life.
2007 2nd left. Josh Homme
the tree grows too :)
Second guy from the left turns into a badass :D awesome idea
whts in the damn jar!!!
That’s what I want to know – what’s up with that damn jar???!
I just read the article and it was more interesting than I thought: “..Molony, known in the group as Belves, is pictured holding a Folgers Instant Coffee jar, which contained a cockroach the guys had decided to keep as a pet. They fed their new friend with a piece of butterscotch candy and kept it company with a photograph of Robert Young.”
The fourth guy from the left is my boss at UPS.
He is even wearing the company shirt…
real friends :)
real friend/s never forgets! Love this post, reminds me of my high school friends, too =)
Now look carefully. Notice the wedding rings come and go. One chap got married and then “not married” in 5 years.
Great idea – thanks for sharing ;p
I’m only twenty but I think they all look the hottest in the last picture
The aged exactly the way I expected them to, EXCEPT for the guy 2nd from the left.
Wow HD Cameras exits 30 years ago
Very good, indeed. Reminds me of some memories.
Friendship the real taste of life nice post
anyone else notice the tree grow? :)
Why is nobody smiling? And what’s in the jar?
That’s awesome. I hope one day me and my boys can do that.
friendship forever nice photographs ……..
Wow, that will be a sad day when one of them is missing from the photo.
(call me Debby Downer)
hahahhahahahhahaa :D
That’s Hillarious!!!.
I’m Amazzedd!…
1982 TO 2012 Now That’s Called a True FriendshiP….. :)
This picture made my day…
So, what’s with the jars?
This story made me feel such conflicting feelings: joy for this tradition laced with sad yearnings for lost youth. Maybe it’s because these guys and I are relatively the same age … and seeing the years pass in the form of the photos applies to my life as well. I still feel 22 – like I was in 1982. I bet they do too!
