A pro laying brick
There’s nothing particularly surprising or poignant about this video, but something about watching this nameless bricklayer do his job perfectly is very peaceful and heartening…

agreed
I wonder how long he has been doing it.
You are wrong about the poignant part, it is a tribute to skilled trades men everywhere that go unnoticed daily. We take for granted a lot of the things we see around us daily, it takes skill, effort, and care. We go about our lives thinking “big” thoughts, living our “important” lives, hoping that we will never have to leave our chairs and fall back into physical labor. I am a trades men after 20 years of living in a cubical, fine woodworking, and not a day goes by do I regret my decision.
Agreed. We think that if one doesn’t go to college and get a bachelor’s degree, have a grand job working in finance or something, a person has wasted their life. There’s nothing wrong with going in a trade such as construction, plumbing, electronics repair, etc. We need those jobs, too! It all depends on what will make you happy.
he makes those bricks look weightless! mastery
Love watching a craftsman work, however I do want to point out that this is a blockmason…not a bricklayer. He is laying looks like 12 inch block…not brick.
I used to mix mortar and hand bricks to such a master brick layer. Thanks for bringing back the memories. It’s truly a wonderful skill.
Ha! So glad someone else saw the poetry in this action; I could watch masons at work all day long.
Yep, it’s mesmerizing. Carpentry is fun to watch, too, and they guys are usually a lot of fun to talk to.
Anyone know what the music was called, and who by please, it was lovely.
I think its Better Days Gone by The Network Music Ensemble
Thanks Justin, another one for Real Player.
Shazam agrees with Justin. Who may have just “Shazammed it” himself.
I love watching people, who are good at what they do, doing their job. Even pizza makers. When you do something long enough, and you care to do a good job, you acquire a finesse and grace that shines out no matter what job is being done. I loved this video.
Right on! My sentiments exactly.
Isn’t applying the mortar called “buttering”? I seem to remember that from hanging around my dad’s construction crew. I liked the idea of pairing the idea of soft warm butter with construction and hard cement blocks.
