Inspiring Nike ad that made an overweight 12-year-old boy puke in a ditch

This spot for Nike is simply a long take of preteen Nathan Sorrell running. He is 5’3″ and weighs 200 pounds…

Unfortunately for Sorrell, the footage was shot an hour after lunch and he wasn’t able to keep it down, so they had to stop filming for him to be sick on the side of the road. But, he says, “They were lenient with me.”

Filming this ad has inspired him and his mom to get healthy together, after which Nike says they’ll return for a follow-up.

Thank you Nathan Sorrell. Your bravery is an inspiration, just as it was meant to be. If you can run, so can I. Can’t wait to see the followup of you and your Mum.

    he can run FOR MONEY!
what a great message that sends to the kid – if you want to “exercise”, you need to get paid a bucket of money to film you doing it, so don’t do it again unless you’re being paid and on camera :-P

Please be nice PhilA. He is only a child. And regardless of why he is doing it – at least he is.

You have to be darn tough to film yourself running when you aren’t all that great at it. Especially with trolls in the internet ready to insult your family and your motivations. Go Nathan! You did a great job.

  5. Gnarly7 says:

There are always mockers and sneerers around ready to pull anyone down and the heading of this posting just shows it. What has “puking” got to do with the spirit of the advert.
Good on you Nathan. I hope you succeed in your goals and to hell with the mockers.

It was a total jerk move to film him running right after lunch. I’m used to running, I’m not a 200 lb preteen, and I don’t run after eating. No one does if they have any idea what they’re doing, or else they puke. Good for him for carrying on.

  7. Every time I see an overweight person working out, I say out loud “Go you!” Although usually I’m in my car so they don’t here me…
