Dropping a cat from over your head over and over again (for science)
Why do cats always land on their feet? How do they do it? Thanks to the guys at Smarter Every Day and their unflappable stunt cat Gigi, we can learn the answers to those questions…
(Yes, I could have named this post more benignly, like maybe, “The physics behind why cats always land on their feet,” but that would have been boring.)

You horrible person; that poor cat! just kidding ;) In fact, it was kinda funny to watch
I remember doing this with my cat when I was a kid. Over my bed, but didn’t have a camera. I was trying to see how low you could drop him and he still be able to flip. It’s pretty low.
I know that guy, and am impressed that his video has made the rounds so well.
I guess I’m about as bad as the next person in regards of laughing (at least initially) at some “accidents” (vs saying pain or discomfort). I was really laughing at the space part where cats were trying to right themselves. I felt bad but thought it was funny. Informative and safe for the cat (with a cooperative cat). Very nice!
I disproved the common wisdom that cats *always* land on their feet when I was about 7 years old. I picked up the neighbor’s cat and flipped him into the air – vigorously.
My motives were purely scientific at the time.
