When I worked in Yosemite I led an astronomy program where we laid on this softball field and I pointed out constellations with a laser pointer that could hit the falls. Sadly, I never actually got the chance to play softball on that field. I’ll have to try to make a guest appearance on one of these visits.

Yosemite is a unique national park in that it has an actual village (called Yosemite Village) where year-round employees live right in the heart of the park, completely surrounded by tourist activity and insanely beautiful granite cliffs, peaks, and waterfalls. This ball field is on the edge of an entire neighborhood where my grandma lived when she was born. It’s residential so they don’t really care for tourists wandering through, but it’s pretty interesting to take a walk through and see all of the old houses. The homes my grandma lived in 75 years ago are still being used today. There’s also an elementary school adjacent to this field.
