not that anyone cares, but I used to set ceramic tile, and tiles this small pretty much always come attached to a mesh so they’re not a pain in the ass to work with. In other words, they’re laid out in whatever pattern they come with from the manufacturer. It’s possible the guy took a utility knife to each square, but I doubt it.
Uh, I hate to burst your mad on, but the “huge line” is called a shadow, caused by the door and framing of the stall blocking some of the light. The darker tiles are in the shade. A lack of light tends to make things look darker.

How do they get tiles to curve like the ones that tile the corner where the wall meets the floor?
it could just be a linoleum sheet over the top, or they’re curved tiles, they make them just for that purpose.
