A Nepalese man recently put a bit of local medical lore to the test after he was bitten by a cobra. Mohammed Salmodin told the BBC, “A snake charmer told me that if a snake bites you, bite it until it is dead and nothing will happen to you.”

So that’s what he did…

When I realised that a snake had bit me, I went home to get a torch and saw that it was a cobra. So I bit it to death.

With complete faith in his methodology, he continued with his day as if nothing had happened. He finally gave into family and friends, however, and agreed to go to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Officials said he wouldn’t be charged since that kind of snake isn’t endangered. How generous of them.
