NYPD memo reminds officers that public photography is not a crime

In this document from 2009, New York’s police department makes sure that its officers know that they may almost never detain people for taking pictures in public or ask people to delete pictures and video they’ve taken…

PetaPixel suggests that New York photographers print this out, laminate it, and keep it in their camera bag. If anyone follows that advice, the rest of us would like to see a video of what happens if you ever have to use it.

    There is another version of this floating around the ‘net. Something like “A Photographer’s Rights” which cites all the laws protecting photography in public. I keep a copy in my camera bag, too!
