How Moken swimmers have adapted to be able to see clearly underwater
The Moken are an Austronesian people whose nomadic lifestyle keeps them often on the water. Because of their frequent freediving, their brains have adapted in a spectacular way to allow them far better sight underwater than you or I have…

wow, thats cool!hmmm, adapted is the wrong word here. i got all excited because i though this might be some microevolutionary step or something. but the host clearly states that any child can learn it. the real thing is that this is a learned behavior not an adaptation or anything that grand. but still crazy cool!
That is just plain cool! Had to look up who the Austronesian were, though. Always cool learning about people groups I haven’t heard of before.
Gah!!! they didn’t explain how they compensate for the diminished light getting to their retinas!!
Great video. If any child can learn that behavior, does it make the Moken people’s ability to see clearly under water something less significant? Did the study come out after discovery from the moken people? if yes then i think the Moken still deserve credit
