How German television explains baby-making to children

Earlier this year, the highly-acclaimed, long-running German educational show for children called “Die Sendung mit der Maus” — “The Program with the Mouse” — aired a segment about how babies are made. It is funny, winsome, and surprisingly cute for a video that centers around anthropomorphized sperm.

(Though it helps to know German, you’ll get the idea pretty well, regardless. Also, so you won’t be too shocked: The clip contains cartoon images relevant to baby-making.)

Would you use this to educate your kids if there were an English version?

I see nothing wrong with this video. I would absolutely allow my children to watch this!

And the stupid but athlectially gifted sperm wins. o.O

i learned two things about germans today…

    1.) their newborns are GINORMOUS!!!

2.)food service for new mothers is nutritious, but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired….

I agree with Mandi. I hope they come out with an English version. I explained sex to my kids when they were still in elementary school. Their reaction was “ewwww gross!”, lol!

It’s a cute idea, but to get real for a moment… intelligence isn’t genetic, there aren’t “dumb” sperm and “smart” sperm. Likewise, there aren’t “dumb” eggs, or “smart” eggs. Any idiot can be father or mother to a genius, and vice versa.

    • si says:

and don’t forget that their view of genetics means we all should be good swimmers…

    • John Tiller says:

Well, to some degree, intelligence is genetic. That’s why the parents of smart people are usually smarter than the parents of stupid people. Although, perhaps that’s because their parents teach them knowledge.
However, i get what you’re trying to say, at the level of sperm, there is no such thing as intelligence- they have no brain.

    • Chelsi says:

That’s actually not true. Like most traits, intelligence is indeed genetic. There are other factors that influence intellectual ability, but genetics is a major component.

  6. Ella says:

    WTF did I just watch?

  7. Yahon Vandersmith says:

Yes, I would let my child watch this, it would be easier to watch then to
    explain.

  8. Jake says:

Iz zis vut zay kol Nazism?

    • Emil says:

Are you stupid? Or simply trolling?
I can’t tell, but I hope it’s not the first… it would mean that you are one of the most stupid people I know…

  9. Nora says:

I think the trip that the egg makes is a lot more harrowing than the one the sperm make. What ever you do egg, do not touch the sides of that fallopian tube!
