Cheap brains for sale in St. Louis (Well, there used to be, anyway)

A Boing Boing reader wrote in to them…
I took this pic in the 1970′s. It is on Chouteau Ave. in St. Louis, which was famous in the early 20th Century for Brain Sandwiches (use a lot of mustard). It was not uncommon for dolts to be told to take a quarter down to Chouteau to get some brains. Sadly, the building is no longer standing.
Here are a couple more pics…

Here’s an artist’s interpretation of Chouteau Ave and Carr Lane before the intersection came into the 21st century…

Finally, here’s the intersection now…

Isn’t it sad that what used to be a dingy corner with cheap donuts and brain sandwiches is now nothing more than a well-kept, state-of-the-art nursing home? What is this world coming to, right?
