Aquaponic gardening is a method of growing food using a symbiosis between the process of raising aquatic animals and the process of cultivating plants in water rather than dirt. (Just watch the video below… It’s a lot more interesting than I just made it sound.)

Urban farmer and entrepeneur Eric Maundu has taken the idea of aquaponic gardening to the next level…

…and made his gardens smart. Using sensors (to detect water level, pH and temperature), microprocessors…, relay cards, clouds and social media networks…, Maundu has programmed his gardens to tweet when there’s a problem (e.g. not enough water) or when there’s news (e.g. an over-abundance of food to share).
