Oh boy, here we go…
My exact words before hitting play…
Ughgughg. Westboro Baptist do NOT represent Biblical Christianity. Oy! I couldn’t watch the whole thing.
It’s people like this that is helping the world dislike Christians.
Totally agree with your comment! This is NOT a true walk of a Christian. He could’ve interviewed so many others who have such a deep Love and commitment to serve Christ.
Storm’s a comin’
from a Bible standard u guys are judging….
Westboro Baptist Church does not represent the LOVE of GOD! They walk in hate. God says hate the sin love the sinner. Jesus hung out with sinners to give them a new hope and freedom. These men misquote scripture. Please I beg you not to think we are like this because we are not..there is unity in Jesus these guys and their church make people not want to know JESUS.
Tammy, God nowhere says “Hate the sin, love the sinner” that was Gandhi. What God does say is: “Love your neighbour.” We are to hate nothing, that’s nowhere in our job description. Hating sin is not our job.
AUGH I can’t stand these people. They are so self righteous and horrid. I am a Christian….BUT I AM NOT LIKE THESE PEOPLE!!!! Why can’t the Media interview REAL christians, like Ravi Zacharias, or Dr. James Dobson, or Ken Ham, or all those great Christians out there? Why do they have to pick these two awful people and parade THEM as Christians… it is so sickening.
Oh yah, and Tom Hanks is going to hell because he doesn’t give glory to God. What about the fact that he doesn’t believe that Jesus Christ is his personal Lord and Saviour? He’d go to hell if he DID give glory to God and didn’t believe in Jesus Christ. These people are totally missing the point… AUGH..
And seriously… Saying that the gay guy is a Liar… really. Gay people can be Christians if they want, but it is self-contradictory…God did say that it is an abomination to Him in several different places in the Bible, but telling people “You’re goin to hell, you’re goin to hell, and so are you” doesn’t bring them to Christ if that’s all you tell them… seriously. These people are going to have a lot of explaining to do before the Throne of God.
I agree on some of what you said, but I do believe, as Christians, we are to tell others they are going to Hell. But not like these guys were doing, not all “fire and brimstone” and in-your-face kind of attitude and with a rude and arrogant attitude. Ray Comfort does an amazing job sharing the Gospel. Here is a video of Ray witnessing (there are tons of them on Youtube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbf0ZK3Wjjk&feature=share&list=PL26524DA9664D92C5
Sorry, corrie… I didn’t really phrase my argument that well! I meant that going up to people and telling them first off that God hates them is no way to bring them to the fundamental theological foundation of God’s love…. I agree with the fact that we should tell people that they will go to hell if they do not repent and turn to Jesus Christ, but without showing them the way, our witness is worth nothing. And really, in the end, it should be more of “If you believe in Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, then you will go to heaven and spend eternity with God”, rather than “if you believe in Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, then you won’t go to hell and burn forever.” I am not saying, please realize, that telling people that hell will be their ultimate punishment is wrong and that we shouldn’t do it. It is a necessary fact of witnessing, but we shouldn’t let it dominate our entire witness…
Oh man, I can’t tell you enough how much Westboro does NOT represent the Christian church or God.
Also, Russel Brand is hilarious. I thought he did a great job with this interview even though I personally disagree with him on quite a lot of things.
Brand was surprisingly kind and gracious in his interview.
I’ve never like Russell Brand so much.
When I hear ‘condemnation to hell’ pronouncements made by the misinformed and the people who would rather follow what they’ve been told rather than what they have found by educating themselves, I feel this overwhelming peace and contentment wash over me because I know there is no such thing as a fiery place of torment. Not for me and not for those who spew the bullshit. But this crap is good for a laugh now and then.
Is Russell Brand a theist? He actually sounds genuine about his conviction of a “holy entity” of some sort. Naturally, he may be just playing to it. That was his most serious moment though.
He is an addict in recovering and very likely picked up theism though various recovery programs. I haven’t read any biography to confirm, however.

what a lot of time and energy to waste. Do animals go to heaven? If you say no then we’re all f#@cked. Be good to your neighbor because when your race is done, it’s over. What makes you think differently? Words on a page? Things people have told you? We’re no different than that spider you stepped on yesterday. He’s done and so are we, sooner or later. I try to be kind to my neighbor because I know our time is short, not because some big brother in the sky is watching me. And if there is some celestial big brother, do you really think he’d condone the exclusion, hate, and judgment from the bible thumpers? He, or more likely she, would probably relate better to the atheists and agnostics. eiher way, I sleep soundly at night not worrying that I’m going to burn in hell because I coveted my neighbor’s wife (just for a second but that’s all takes)
Get along, open your mind, accept others, help who you can and accept help if you need it. don’t judge and don’t take what doesn’t belong to you. Wow, I sound like Jesus. A really cool hippy, not a wall street profiteer.
This video broke my heart.
Sadly, many Christians, even those who would look down on Westboro, still do not act very biblically towards homosexuals. Yes, I believe homosexuality is a sin, but is only one of many including lust, greed, lying, covetousness, etc. Yes we can and SHOULD tell people about sin and their need to repent (saying God loves and accepts everyone is not the answer; universalism is wrong). Homosexuals need Jesus more than they need to “stop being homosexual” only He is able to save them from their sins including, but not limited to, homosexuality. I believe a better response is to treat these people like any other un-believers and reach out to them with the gospel of Christ!
The bible places no degree of hierarchy on sins. A sin is a sin, is a sin… We all sin, everyday. That is humanity! “These people” are no different than you in that they “sin.” Also, God gave free-will. Who are you to try and take away what God has given?
In the end all of this is just semantics. So is the text of the Bible.
All you X’tians should look up the “No true Scotsman” fallacy. Your evil rulebook can be used to justify any atrocity. They just take it a little further than you do.
There goes another person using their “evil rulebook” (opinion) to call the Christian “evil rulebook” evil. No TRUE anti-Christian would EVER use a fallacy to address another fallacy.
The “no true Scotsman” fallacy isn’t a formal fallacy. It’s something some dude came up with to make arguing with people easier, and it’s stupid. The fallacy does not take into account the distinction between ethnicity and followership. When a person acts outside of the moral boundaries held by Christian texts, they are not “true Christians” because Christianity necessarily involves acting; following explicit “rules.” Being a Scotsman does not involve anything other than simply being born in a certain place.
