Tony Hawk skates with his daughter, takes a jab at critics of his parenting
Yesterday, Tony Hawk posted a picture of himself and his daughter tooling around on a skateboard together…
This being the internet, he was loudly criticized for taking such risks with a child, so he posted another picture of them skateboarding and included a wonderfully barbed and probably accurate caption…
For those that say I endanger my child: It’s more likely that you will fall while walking on the sidewalk than I will while skating with my daughter.

This guy has been the best skateboarder in the world since anyone under 35 could walk. I think the kid will be ok.
My daughters climb up 26′ high on aerial silks and do drops. *shrug* My son skateboards. I sneeze without depends. We all have levels of risk we’re willing to take. Hahaha.

it’s great he’s doing it and all but as a parent he should have put a helmet on her, just to instill the whole safety first thing. I don’t watch much of skating and boarding but I do recall seeing helmets on everyone. I trust his ability to skate with her more than I do my own to walk with mine, but still, safety first. Start good habits early. Shit happens.

Umm no, helmets make people careless. Watch kids play football in the street, then watch them in full pads and helmets on a nexturf field. Helmets should be reserved for stunts, to emphasize the danger, not for everyday shit. Tony Hawk skating a pool is like a normal person breathing. Do you put a helmet on your kid when they play on a swing set? What about when they go sledding? Ice skating? How about running fast? Kids need to learn about their limits and boundaries, not be put in protective bubbles. Children being injured is tragic, but every situation needs to be assessed based on the competence/experience of the participants. This comes from a former skateboarder and current overprotective parent, I just think the danger level of this activity couldn’t be lower.
All the matter is in your head, if you are so prone to safety first why don’t you ban, cigarette, alcohol and guns as first things tomorrow morning?
He can take a picture with his daughter and not making her skate like that every day, two different things. So easy to criticize without even trying to know what skateboarding is and where are the risks. The pool is his own, its clean from debris and nobody else will cross his line. Not the same with you walking on the sidewalk.
If it was a picture of me skateboarding with my daughter, the critics would have a case. But if I had the mad boarding skills of Tony Hawk, and my daughter loved skateboarding with me, I’d be all over it.
For crying out loud, worry about your own kids. Leave the man alone.
The simple fact that he is spending time with his kids makes his critics morons.

Parents do lots of risky things with their kids. Just watch Americas Funniest Home Videos. My dad used to throw me like 10 feet off his shoulders in the swimming pool. It happens. Tony just does it a little differently lol. But rest assured, I’m sure he’s more competent on his board than he even is on his feet!

Awesome!!! Hey, if I were that little girl, I’d be like “awesome!” helmet or no helmet….Really, I am glad that there is someone out there who doesn’t give a darn for what strangers think about his personal decisions..
Anyone who drives a car with their kid in it is in no position to criticize. Seat belts and child safety seats get you a few points but not nearly enough to overcome the insanely outrageous risks of driving.
The only thing about this picture that could be considered potentially dangerous would be the influence it has on other not so Tony Hawk skaters to do the same thing.
But wow. Amazing fun.
