stirring IS the correct way to make one, the crushed ice doesn’t do as much for it as the gentle stirring motion of a stirred martini…

Alton Brown says vodka martinis can be shaken, but a gin martini should always be stirred, as not to bruise the gin.
But vodka martinis are an abomination. A martini is made with gin.
