Right wing boycott of Kindle (and Amazon) in 3 … 2… 1…
I think you forgot the words “laughably ineffective” before “right wing”, there.
No joke I saw this commercial last night, and I was confused at the gay little twist at the end of it. Today I am now ashamed of being gay for owning a kindle fire. I am proud to say however, that I will be selling my Kindle very soon, not because I hate gays, but I hate supporting gays, and being tricked into it. Thanks Amazon for letting me down.
Kodekill – I’ll buy your kindle, homophobe.
I think people like you are HILARIOUS. ” god forbid i support something that benefits something different than myself”
If you sold everything you owned because of the company’s non-discriminatory and forward thinking views…you’d probably own…ummm…nothing. No Apple…no Microsoft…no Levi’s…no Oreos…no Budweiser…well…no nothing…almost.
The Kindle commercial is disgusting. Inappropriate content. I don’t appreciate Kindle/Amazon shoving their views of homosexuality at me or my family.
You’re an idiot. It would be perfectly okay if it were two straight couples, however? Nice reasoning.
Facts are, there are very few close-minded people like you left in this world, meaning you’ll be seeing stuff like this way more and more as time goes on. Deal with it or die an ignorant bigot.
There will always be MANY people who dont believe in homosexuality DEAL WITH IT. It does not make a person clos eminded just like someone who doesnt believe in heterosexuality doesnt make them close minded to me. If you dont believe in heterosexuality i dont have a problem with you or call you childish names.
Homosexuality is a fact.
“Not believing in it” isn’t an option. Just as there’s no “not believing in oxygen or an iPod”. It exists.
You may not LIKE it, but no one gives two figs about whaty ou think. Don’t like homosexuality? Well, don’t have sex with the same gender. Problem solved.
I don’t like one night stands, doesn’t mean I should dictate that everyone else in the entire country shouldn’t be able to have them. I just choose not to do it myself and let those who do it, have at it. I have no problems with what other people do.
So why do you?
And no, preventing discrimination is not forcing others to do anything. So don’t pull that b/s out!
kinda like chic fila-a did theirs? homophobe
I agree with you completely, i don’t hate gay people but i don’t support the idea of letting my children see this and think it is normal that a man calls another man ‘husband’. you guys can do whatever you want in private but don’t put this on tv where the kids can see as it can confuse them big time! at least give us a choice instead of just put it on tv like that !
Why is it okay for a heterosexual couple to do it and not a homosexual couple?
Why do we have to about a woman’s husband? I don’t care what they want to do in private, but don’t shove it in my face!
I don’t appreciate Kindle/Amazon shoving their views on heterosexuality at me or my family. /sarcasm
It’s doing nothing differently for the gay couple as it is for the straight couple. It’s just showing them. Nothing about rights, nothing about anything. Just two married couples.
You are disgusting.
But it’s OK for a random guy to go up to a chick reading a book on the beach, spend a hunk of cash on the spot to impress her and then mack on her?
So what if there wasn’t a gay twist at the end? What if it was just another egomaniacal jerk demanding attention from a woman just because she isn’t dressed from head to toe, then assuming he can get something for spending a wad of cash? Then it would be OK?
I question your idea of appropriate.
I just can’t believe this commercial. It airs in primetime TV and has to confuse the hell out of our children. It’s bad enough that our airwaves are rife with the support of homosexuality, but now we have it in commercials as well. God created man and woman to fit together like pieces of a puzzle in order to procreate and form a union. This is another time where I think the 1st amendment is abused to the nth degree. I will never shop on Amazon again.
Amazon doesn’t need your business. If you think they do, then you are silly!
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
The first admendment has not been abused in any way. If you want to isolate your children and make them as homophobic as you, don’t let them watch TV. I am a straight man with two kids. My parents had gay friends, who I was exposed to. Exposing children to homosexual people doesn’t make them gay, it simply tells children they can love who they want. You should find more love in your heart.
I like this. It’s cute. :)
If Amazon hopes to boost its Kindle sales by targeting 3% of the population, more power to them.
They’re trying to alienate the douchebag market. I’m going to uy my Kindle right now.
You’re not thinking. Kindle has not just targeted 3% (actually it is more towards 10%, because 10% of U.S. population is gay), they have targeted gay community and its supporters. They are one of the first companies to have a gay commercial during primetime programming on several channels. Feel free to stay in the 1950′s while the rest of the world progresses.
They targeted the same people, they just left fewer people out.
Since when is allowing gay/lesbian marriage “progress”??? More like negative progress! But, if you’d like to be more stupid than the over a million species that do opposite gender intercourse, that’s fine with me, we don’t need you anyways.
If straight people would stop producing all those gay kids we would’t have a problem, would we?
The 10% lie has been debunked, acutal numbers range 1-3.5%.
Homosexuality is not progress.
I agree with you! Homophobes make me sick. Everyone has the right to love who they want. God created us and wanted us all to be happy and make the world a better place. I am actually proud that there is a commercial showing homosexuality. It gives me hope in the world
The was the 2000 Census, during which, at the time, many people would not openly admit that they were gay. Nowadays, the number is far greater, due to more people being acceptant of the gay population.
“Every Fifth Person — at Least
In August 2002*, Gallup asked Americans, in an open-ended format, to estimate the percentage of American men and the percentage of American women who are homosexual. The average estimates were that 21% of men are gay and 22% of women are lesbians. In fact, roughly a quarter of the public thinks more than 25% of men and 25% of women are homosexual. It should be pointed out, too, that many Americans (at least one in six) could not give an estimate.
Male respondents tend to give lower estimates of both the male and female homosexual population than female respondents do. The average estimates among male respondents are that 16% of men and 21% of women are homosexual. Among female respondents, the average estimates are that 26% of men and 23% of women are homosexual. Somewhat interestingly, both sexes believe there are more homosexuals in the opposite sex than in their own sex.”
Most “experts” tend to guess the homosexual population at around 10%, which by the way, is near the population of black people in the U.S. (13.6%)
Ryan and LMD,
I know I’m conservative and am sure that affects what I want to believe, but I am surprised at your 10% figure. A google quickly shows figures of 4 to 5% of adults identifying as gay (excluding some in the closet I am sure), but even gay sympathetic articles see 10% as a high-end estimate. One site said 10 or 11% have polled as having had homosexual desires vs. identifying as being gay.
I don’t see how the results of a poll of estimates can be submitted as evidence to the actual amount.
This 3 % population spends money. Amazon is ahead of its time
Lmfao. Nuff said
And what are these strangers celebrating? Kind of creepy.
They’re celebrating their partners getting them alcohol. duh.
I was trying to make a decision between the Kindle and the Nook. You’re cute ever tyzine you’re cute Averitt Ising about gay marriage made my decision simple. I’m choosing the Nook
The definition of irony: A quasiliterate choosing an e-reader, based on ignorance.
Still, as far as their “alienating the douchebag market” goal goes, one more victory for Amazon.
Who the hell is Averitt Ising?
I think it’s someone trying to type “advertising” and their iPad or whatever keeps correcting it to something else. Read creatively.
I was alarmed. Homosexuality is sexual perversion. There’s nothing wrong with same sex Love, but making it sexual is perversion.
And yet straight people can show that they’re in a relationship all they want? Nice double standard.
plus, I don’t see how this could be any more mild. It’s not as though they started making out.
I would have loved to see that actor make out with another man, he is FINE!
I think the double standard is hilarious. No one cares that the woman mentions her husband, the guy does it and it’s suddenly some issue.
Why? There’s no logical answer to that one! Which is why I love when people show their stupidity by making it an issue.
My Kindle has been acting a little queer lately. The screen won’t turn off.
I think this is really great. I’m happy to see more gay-friendly advertising ^_^
I’m so happy to see a progressive commercial! Our society is evolving- lets embrace it!
Your right , evolving straight to Hell!
Haha, go back to the Puritanical age.
I think that is wrong. I do not approve of gay marriage, male or female. I cant argue because its freedom of speech but I feel like its being infiltrated into my life and others too.
Sorry Alex C., but it’s none of your business to dictate who is allowed to marry whom in this mordern day and age, in a secular state where we have space age technology and quantum mechanics and genomics. A new modern age where marriage is a legal contract of loving commitment in the eyes of the government and not some bunk overseen by an old superstituious religious sect that believes in magic and mythical supernatural beings who smite this and smiet that and generally hated humanity and women were to be kept as property. Same sex marriage does not eventuate into a slippery slide of polygamy, or beastiality or sin or floods or plagues of pestilence any other nutjob reasons religious conservatives give.
Look who’s talking! In case you haven’t ever taken human anatomy, males and females are kind of MADE for each other. Plus, out of the millions of species in the universe, humans are the only one to decide that having intercourse with humans their own gender is fine. So, not only is gay/lesbian marriage morally wrong, it is scientifically wrong also. Not to mention spreading AIDS over 50X faster than rape.
Wow, I really hope you’re trolling because there is so much in your comment that is complete lies. Humans are NOT the only species that practice homosexuality and the comment about spreading AIDs is just…. flat out stupid. I’m more embarrassed by the are people as uneducated and ignorant as you than I ever would be about the sexual orientation of another person.
Personally, I do not understand the “we see examples in the animal kingdom as well” argument because their are also examples in the animal kingdom where the female EATS her partner if he doesn’t escape fast enough
Joy, perhaps you should read the comment that the list of animals found to have homosexuals was in response to. You know, the one that incorrectly claimed that homosexuality was unique to humans?
Yes, you’re right, that response does not skewer *every* idiotic argument made by semiliterate bigots, but it skewers the specific idiotic argument that the specific semiliterate bigot was making when it was posted in response.
Recent studies estimate 8.7 million animal species on the earth (google search). The wiki cited above lists 158 species, differentiates between homosexual behavior and engaging in anatomically procreational acts, and infers that the latter is rare. Mathematically that comes to about 0.002%. Statistically non-existant. While Libertarian and neutral on the subject, I did want to put it in perspective.
What an ignorant comment, but then again a lot of so called ‘christian’ commentators here seem to have the ignorance bag over their head today. For your information, AIDS, and the virus HIV is most widespread in Africa, and it’s heterosexuals that are mostly affected. But why let facts get in the way of morally panicking hypocritical beliefs?
I am an AIDS researcher. I had tried to post here earlier, but I must have used language that was too crude and it never got posted. Anyway, it is definitely a medically proven fact that the HIV virus is more easily transmissible by homosexual sex. It’s just a matter of the biological barrier. The reason that more total heterosexuals have AIDS is due to the fact that there are more total heterosexuals. Homosexual sex is, objectively “riskier” in terms of contracting an HIV infection.
God made man and woman to mate. He didn’t say if you dont like it you can do it the way you want. The truth is gay marriage or partnership kills the human race in a way. Men and women were made for each other. Gay marriage or partnership is just disgusting, shameful, and embarrassing. I want to keep my family name alive and I can only hope that my children, when I have them, will know where their family heritage lies and that they too will want to have chilren of their own and teach them the value of the continuum of life.
Gay marriage does not kill the human race. These people were born gay so whether they marry or not, they won’t be having biological children. You follow your gods rules for you and I’ll do what I believe is right. I hope your children grow up with people more tolerant than you.
Just because I find you disgusting, shameful, and embarrassing doesn’t mean I get to take away your right to things. And believe me, when people say things like you’re saying I really do feel disgusted.
Your opinion does not get to influence my actions. Just as mine doesn’t get to influence yours.
Mate, if you honestly think we need MORE people on this planet, we’ve got bigger issues here than your bigotry. I hope that your kids grow up knowing that – be they gay, straight, or anything in between – they are no better than any other person. And I really, really hope none of them turn out to be LGBTI, because you’re the kind of dad who causes queer kids to commit suicide.
I didn’t say we need more people, I very much agree that we are over populated. What we need is more responsible people who will wait to have kids as well as taking away welfare to a vast majority of recipients who abuse the system, not all just the lazy ones. That will take a bunch of pressure off taxpayers like me and those of us who have jobs. Thats how we solve that problem. If you like I can tell about an easy effective way to reducing the national debt, national crime including shootings at schools, and how to build a better society…
tell the straight couples to stop having gay babies then :-P
telling people that they can’t marry because of YOUR religious beliefs is like telling people to stop eating a donut because YOU’RE on a diet
also, the Bible tells us that we’re allow slaves, do you also have slaves in your house? also, do you stone people to death because of adultery or for working on Sundays? the Bible tells you to do that as well!!!
now grow up and get your brain into the 21st century
There is no way to tell what a person is going to decide to do when they are born. It depends on how they are raised and what happens to them during their life that determines how they conduct their life.
If you dont like that I use what the bible says then take the bible out of the equation.
Alex, I certainly don’t like you using a 2000 year old book, written by sexist, racist bigots, and think that we should apply it to our lives NOW!
if you follow the Bible then women shouldn’t be allowed to be teachers, a man should be allowed as many wives as he wants, if a husband dies without having given his wife a child then his brother has to step in, not to mention that if a man rapes a woman, he has to marry her, and that you can take slaves from your defeated enemies – all are written as “rules” in the Bible
you can’t pick and choose what to take from it – you either take IT ALL, or NONE OF IT!
note also that it makes ONE reference to homosexuality, but mentions THREE TIMES that a goat should not be cooked in it’s mother’s milk, so that is THREE TIMES more important than not being homosexual :-P
think about this – if god doesn’t like gays, why are all of the angels male???
I don’t know what bible you are reading from but that is certainly not in a Christian bible. God does not hate gays…(at least if you even believe there is a god) no where in the bible does it say that. Also no where in the Bible does it say that you can stone people to death…sorry but your resources are completely WRONG. You can look it up on Google all you want, but you being so biased and hard headed of course your only going to look for those answers that make you right. I want you to actually read look in a Roman Catholic Bible (one of the branches of Christianity) and tell me where it says that. Let’s start using REAL FACTS HERE. Also let me tell everyone this…why is it homosexuals say “don’t shove religion or God down my throat” while the majority respect that and they are SHOVING GAY MARRIAGE DOWN OUR THROATS. This is not the world evolving into a better place.
The term homophobic refers to fear of homosexuality. This term often is used by homosexual activists to end rational discussion of the issue by accusing their opponents of having an irrational fear. This is unjust. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “Men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies . . . must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.” Motives probably vary, depending on the activist. Many are seeking public approval of homosexuality. They want societal acceptance. Others may be seeking absolution for a guilty conscience. Some probably want society to say that what they are doing is morally right. But you don’t have to be a theologian, nor even religious, to understand that any form of behavior that cuts a person’s longevity in half and comes with a lengthy list of venereal diseases is simply not right. You don’t have to be the pope to see that. A thoughtful atheist can discover easily a completely secular natural morality that says: This behavior kills people. People should live. But homosexual behavior kills homosexuals. That’s not right. Homosexuals need to live just like everyone else.
The statistics make it very clear that homosexuals are not at peace with themselves. No one who is at peace seeks sex with hundreds of strangers. That is bizarre behavior. Something is dreadfully wrong with the psychology of people who seek random sex-a fact we see confirmed by their suicide, drug, and antisocial behavior statistics.
Legalization of same-sex marriage will not bring absolution nor deliver inner peace. Homosexuals will continue to suffer from the problems their “lifestyle” creates, even if every state legislature and both houses of Congress were to pass bills extolling homosexual behavior and privileging their relationships over those of heterosexuals. Active homosexuals will continue seeking something that they will never find through the things they do with strangers. They will still be tragically unhappy people. Such behavior will never offer the basis for marriage nor satisfy their relationship needs as persons. Homosexuals need compassion, but since they will not benefit by homosexual “marriage,” there is no reason for society to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples. In fact, recognition of this intrinsically disordered behavior can have only bad effects on society. Our society is at a turning point. Are we going to undo the mistakes of the past thirty years that have given us an epidemic of divorce, fatherlessness, drugs, and violent and promiscuous children? Or are we going to continue the legitimization of same-sex unions by giving them the same status as heterosexual marriages?
The choice is an easy one. Marriage should be exclusive, unconditional, permanent, and life-giving. Marriages like that lead to health, happiness, prosperity, long life, and social peace. And the evidence is there to prove it. Homosexuals will not be able to create marriages like that, even if their “marriages” become legal. Statistics reveal that the lives of homosexuals are anything but gay. A more accurate description would paraphrase Thomas Hobbes’s vision of life apart from civilization: nasty, lonely, and short.
The loneliness and short lives are not due to the fact that same-sex marriage is illegal. They are inherent in the nature of the homosexual lifestyle itself. Homosexuality doesn’t satisfy; sexually satisfied people don’t seek random sex with hundreds of strangers. Gay activists who seek absolution from society will not find it, even if same-sex marriage becomes legal. Courts and legislatures cannot create clean consciences.
But legalization of homosexual marriage would empty marriage of its meaning. And that will tend to weaken marriage even further, which will further increase the divorce rate and maximize divorce-related misery.
The institution of marriage is precious. It enhances the health, longevity, and well-being of married couples. It increases the health, vocational success, and emotional well-being of children. In providing all these benefits, heterosexual marriage contributes to the happiness and prosperity of society. Marriage must, therefore, remain limited to one man and one woman who strive to keep their marriage exclusive, unconditional, permanent, and life-giving. Nothing less will ever meet the needs of the human person, because nothing less satisfies.
Because it is intrinsically disordered, we must not recognize homosexual activity as legitimate, and we must not give public approval to homosexual marriage because of the harm that will do to the institution of marriage and because of the social harm that will result from emptying marriage of its meaning. Perhaps the most serious social harm would be to children: the children of divorce and the children of same-sex couples, who will suffer all the ills we have discussed.
Society has a lot to lose from legalizing homosexual marriage. And homosexuals have nothing to gain.
Both sides of this comment leave me shaking my head. First of all JOAN, you are really making a lot of assumptions about gay relationships. I know many gay/lesbian couples who have been in a monogamous relationship for as long as I’ve been married (25 years). They are not promiscuous, they are not miserable, and they are not at higher risk for death or STI’s. I also know many heterosexual people who are promiscuous, who do not remain monogamous, and at least 2 who have STI’s. Homosexuality does not kill people. Careless and risky behavior kills people.
And PhilA, the Bible has to be read and understood in context. The Bible does not tell us to have slaves or stone people to death.
I hate the fact that religious people can become unreasonably intolerant and use scripture as an excuse to hurt others. I would not say that this is the position of most Christians though. I also hate the fact that people judge Christians and the Bible based on inaccurate information and a vocally hateful minority.
Dear Darla ans Joan,
You need to read your bibles again. I think you may have overlooked a couple of passages. All passages are from the King James Version (other translations will have more modern words)
“And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.”
“Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.”
On women having their period
And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean. And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even. And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.”
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
“And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you”
So you see, using religion and especially the Bible as an argument against homosexuality (from Leviticus 18:22) is not a great one comsidering most people using this argument don’t own slaves, eat shrimp and other shellfish, and don’t become recluses when they have their period.
And Joan… Society has a lot to lose by legalizing gay marriage? Where I live gay marriage is legal and I have not lost anything (or gained for that matter!). It has not affected me, nor my heterosexual marriage in the least. No one in my community has fallen into a pit of despair and depravity, and most importantly, no one has turned gay by seeing two married gays.
I only hope your children are not as ignorant as you.
Selina your sadly mistaken.
Marci you are 100 % wrong.. YOU are the one that needs to educate yourself before you post something full of ignorance. Get your facts straight dummy
Care to tell me what part of my comment was wrong rather than just calling me a dummy? Or would that be too mature of a thing for you to do?
Raise your hand if you care what Alex C. thinks about anything at all. * crickets chirping…tumbleweed rolls by* Oh wait, that’s right Alex, no one gay had to ask for your permission. Sorry that the world dares to infringe something the almighty you doesn’t agree with! Heavens to Betsy, what do we do? What do we do? Oh yeah that’s right, no one cares!
I think that is wrong. I do not approve of straight marriage. I can’t argue because it’s freedom of speech, but I feel like it’s being infiltrated into my life and others too.
Wow, seriously I am astonished to see how many people are still so ignorant. When I read comments like that it literally disgusts me to the point of nausea. I just really love when people start preaching beliefs from dead scitzophrenic men to promote bullying and suicide. If being gay wasn’t hard enough.. Yanno, with the lonliness and feeling of not belonging and WISHING you were straight just to fit in. If all of that wasn’t enough THANK YOU for leaving that comment and making my day just that much peachier. Scumbags.
There is no such thing as being born gay. Little children don’t grow up thinking and saying to themselves and others “I was made to love another boy/girl”. Show me a kid that says that, they don’t because they make that CHOICE when they’re older and their minds start opening up to reality. Reality to a deleloping mind is influence. Explain to me, Marci, or anyone, how a boy or girl can be raised by straight parents and still come out gay? You don’t think t.v., internet, school, work, has anything to do with the influence of gay marriage or partnership? If any of us humans has the ability or is supposed to have the ability to reproduce but doesn’t (such as women with turner syndrome) cannot say that they are gay. If you are “supposed” to be gay then you shouldn’t have a reproductive system, if you do then you are not born gay! You dont hear about gay’s saying “I was born gay but I like the opposite sex”. That makes just as little sense as “I was born gay”.
Show me a child who has already identified with any sexuality. From what I recall most little children have no interest in any sexual relationships. In fact, usually, they consider such notions “icky”.
And I have tons of gay male friends who like me, a female.
Thanks, try again.
You just proved my point…
Sexuality isn’t just about sex. :/
I had many crushes on boys as a child. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I certainly do now.
it’s OK, we understand that people like you were born with your head planted firmly up your ass, but we accept you, so maybe you should accept others for the way they are
Why do you make such a ridiculous statement?
you call MY statement ridiculous after your statement?
take a look at Ellen – she was raised by hetero parents, surrounded by hetero people, brought up completely in a hetero environment and yet turned out gay – you can’t say she was influenced by the Internet or TV – she was just BORN GAY!
Give up, Alex, you can’t win here. Hate isn’t going to win any more. Hate like yours is evil and against all of the bull crap you use from the Bible to try to defend your position of being a bully. You are more evil by being so hateful and unaccepting than anyone is ‘evil’ by being gay.
Something I forgot to add. It takes straight couples to make gay couples. Gays are at a disatvantage, you cannot reproduce, therefore all of you have no choice but to remain hopeful that somebody will choose to be gay.
Incorrect, Alex sweetie. I am every bit as capable of making a baby as yourself if not even more so. And being a gay man I know how to treat women without making them feel second class. Sorry but the laws of physics are against you here- unless you are gay yourself then you can only guess at what we have known all our lives.
Alex C. and others like him are why we can’t have nice things in this blog.
Are you implying that I have control over the internet? How ridiculous can you be? Im exercising my First Amendment right the same way you and every other person is doing.
Actually, this is the internet. Most of us don’t have a First Amendment to begin with, and since it’s a private site the First Amendment doesn’t apply, even if you’re an American.
But do keep trying.
Oh you are sadly mistaken…. the internet, now days, is all about the First Amendment even if you aren’t American, there is some element to that. The internet allows anybody to voice their opinion without the consent of a third party.
Alex apparently thinks that Freedom of Speech = Freedom of Bigotry. I sincerely hope you don’t have kids, because the world needs no more of your hateful DNA running around.
the internet, now days, is all about the First Amendment
No, Alex, it’s not. As should be obvious, even to you, since about 4% of the world’s population is covered by the US First Amendment, and far less than that percentage of internet sites are run by someone the US First Amendment protects you from. And even then, you depend on the goodwill of private companies, who provide no First Amendment protection, to access those.
The phrase “this is the Internet. You have no rights” has never been more true.
The internet allows anybody to voice their opinion without the consent of a third party.
Uh huh. Tell me, do you think you have a right to comment here, and that without the permission of Our Host your comments would still appear?
You exist here on the sufferance of a third party.
Alex is just being a troll. Homophobes like himself have very little substance to contribute but almost ALWAYS have a very big secret they are hiding (Ted Haggard anyone?)
Who said anything about control? And you truly think that this blog is the whole internet? Dude, you need to click on some of the source links for the posts, and see other sites.
All I was saying is that there are people who seem to enjoy ruining the interesting and thought-provoking posts with their garbage.
yeah, having an iPad is yucky, isn’t it?
Gay marriage is illegal in most states. The commercial condones crime and illegal activity.
Meh, there is a law in VA that doesn’t allow women to drive on Main Street. Yet, I doubt you’ll be on car comercial websites commenting about the showing of those commercials in VA.
Laws change. Hopefully you’ll have a conversation or an experience at some point that can change your mind too.
Your comment is silly and you know it. You don’t like the idea of gay marriage and are trying to come up with a logical reason against it, but there is no logical reason against it.
No there is a logical reason against it. Men belong with women, its that simple. Being gay is a sexual perversion. There isn’t a lifeguard in the “gene pool” but there ought to be.
Your argument implies religious belief = logic. That is incorrect. Logic requires various methods of reasoning, studying the evidence and arguments to come with a conclusion. Like in the scientific method. A religious belief is dogma, meaning it cannot be argued, just accepted for what it is.
Consider yourself lucky for being in a country that protects your right to believe whatever you want to believe. But, keep in mind it goes both ways. Others will have different beliefs and different ways to see the world. You don’t agree with homosexual behavior? Don’t be one. Don’t marry a homosexual. Would you rather they marry your (hopefully for their sake, straight) children?
Wrong again. Men and women both have the freedom to be with whoever they choose and WITHOUT having to answer to hateful bigoted homophobes like you. Now go make some more gay babies and stop obsessing about our sex lives, you pervert.
Dang you are the opposite of Batman.
Actually, while you can’t *get* married in several states, *being* married in those states isn’t illegal – and the 14th Amendment guarantees that marriage in one state must be legally recognised in others, even ones where you can’t become married.
So, since it doesn’t describe the process of *getting* married in a place where said marriage is illegal, it doesn’t do any of the things you say it does.
Why are you lying? And how do you reconcile your lying with the 9th (or 8th, if you’re a Catholic or Lutheran) Commandment?
they weren’t born gay. there is a demon of homosexuality in them. homosexuality is an abomination unto God. that’s why his wrath has come upon them in the form of AIDS. wake up–you are blinded by the devil and this world.
Going to go out on a limb and assume you’re a flavor of Christian, a follower of Christ. The guy that told you not to judge.
Secondly, there has been lots of evidence to support that homosexuality is, in fact, at least in part, genetic.
Thirdly, your belief in God is just that: it is a belief. We have no proof of Him. Your beliefs do not need to be thrust upon anyone. It is fine and acceptable for you to believe what you’d like. It does not make them fact. We learned the difference between the two in seventh grade.
Lastly, “They weren’t born gay” You might be right. This is a commercial. With actors. Acting. It’s entirely possible no one in this commercial, at all, is gay. Or, conversely, they might all be.
Good luck learning universal love as your god dictates!
The guy that told you not to judge.
Actually, the various translations tend to mostly agree on “judge not, lest ye be judged”. The problem is, the kind of jerks who make up the majority of ignoring-the-gospel “Christian” commenters are TOTALLY OKAY with being judged, because they think they’re going to pass with flying colours. That’s blasphemous, of course, but they’re not good at logic or reading comprehension, so they don’t realise that.
They’re the kind of people who think “thou shalt not bear false witness” has to do with “Witnessing for The Lord”, and thus they’re free to say untrue things as long as those untruths lead towards Jesus.
They’re bad people, and stupid people. And sadly, there’s a lot of them.
Eating shellfish is also an abomination. Where is your outrage about that? Uh? Uh? Uh?
Wy, all the research that I have seen leads to the conclusion that Homosexuality is some sort of birth defect, an imbalance of brain chemicals and the deformation of an area associated with puberty while a fetus.
God has forbidden homosexual acts, but it is evil and ignorant to condemn those he has made differently from others for being that way.
Straight people get AIDS.
Innocent children get AIDS.
So… you’re the one blinded by the devil. If any magical wizard created AIDS it would be the devil.
In reality, it mostly appears to be the fault of humans. Which, had nothing at all to do with homosexuality.
All the above comments make me so glad I don’t live in the US. I’m not gay, and not married, I’ve just graduated from a good university, and my family is not a particularly liberal household, but I don’t know ANYONE who believes the atrocities above, or ANYONE who would speak with this much vehemence about someone just because of who they choose to love.
Yeah. The comments here aren’t curated, and they’re a sewer of raging ignorant bigotry a lot of the time. It’s sad.
Living in USA is actually great, primary because of the First and Second Amendment. I love the fact that I can defend myself and my family against all enemies foreign and domestic, including our own government. I, however, dont like that our president is destroying our country and “forcing” us to defend ourselves against him and his motley crue. THAT I would agree is a legitimate reason not to live in the USA but if we all moved out who would defend it? Im sorry, its just that everyday we are getting closer to Civil War II and everyone who is awake and aware of this is on edge.
Uggh, another Obama hater. All you people do is nag about this horrible president you have because he is challenging a status quo that NEEDS to change in your country STAT. If you have a problem with your president’s policies, call your government representative and try to change things. Don’t expect some of your views of bigotry will be accepted with open arms. To be honest I think your best bet is just to leave and find a place that fits best with your views. I hear there are some lovely places in Africa where being gay is a crime and everyone who can have access to enjoys guns.
So you’re aware, the expression is “motley crew”, meaning “a varied group of people”, usually used in a derogatory manner. Motley Crue is a “hair band” from the 1908′s, known for wearing makeup, elaborately teased & sprayed hair, and spandex pants.
80′s. 1980′s. Sorry, typo.
I don’t remember any of my lawmakers taking an oath to uphold the Christian bible, but if they did, the bible says that homosexual behavior results in death. Death. So, if you’re not willing to support that, please spare me your belief of the first easy part of that one Old Testament statement that you don’t follow any other part of.
Many of the commentors here make me ashamed to claim Christianity. Here’s my deal. I am a Christian who lives in WA state and voted yes on gay marriage. Why did I do that? Well, according to my bible, we were commanded by God to obey our local authority. That includes laws and regulations.
According to the constitution, all men are born free and equal and have unalienable rights. To me this says that it is not my place to tell someone, gay or straight, “NO, You are not equal to me in the right to marriage because of whom you love” In fact, because of these two items in question I will fight passionately for every person to have equal rights, to marriage, fair pay, and freedom of religion. Everyone.
Also, to whoever said “Judge not lest ye be judged” didn’t apply to gay people, I must politely disagree with you for the next verse says “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Or in the words of Christ himself “Let he who is WITHOUT SIN cast the first stone.”
Before we start casting judgement on others on what kind of “abominations” they are performing, perhaps we should take some time to look into our own lives and what we could be improving there, and model ourselves after a forgiving and gentle Christ instead of harsh and unbending hippocrites.
‘To me this says that it is not my place to tell someone, gay or straight, ‘NO, You are not equal to me in the right to marriage because of whom you love’”
Prior to the enactment of any laws specifically allowing for same-sex marriage every person regardless of what sexual orientation they professed had the exact same right: To get married to some one of the opposite sex.
A man could marry a woman, across the board, no bias on the basis of sexual orientation, religion, race, etc.
A woman could marry a man, across the board, no bias on the basis of sexual orientation, religion, race, etc.
So the allowance of a man to marry a man or a woman marry a woman is granting an additional “legal right”, not restoring it or making it apply to everyone, etc. A view that touts that is simply – as a matter of fact – inaccurate. Usually what is brought up is the ability to marry someone one loves – this, however, is not a legal right per se. The law doesn’t care whether you love the person or not. You could marry someone you hate for all the law cares.
I say this not to make any judgement on the matter, simply as a point of fact.
Yes, unfortunately it may be advertisements like this that are the future, but I do not want to see our children of tomorrow warped so I’m going to do my part by throwing my gay ass Kindle in the garbage immediately, and right after that I am closing my Amazon account! I believe in equal rights but I do not feel children should be subjected to gay people and child molesters.
Whoa who whoa, why did you just put gay people and child molesters in the same sentence? I sincerely hope you’re not drawing a connection? Being gay doesn’t make a person also attracted to children of the same sex. Judging by your comment, I assume you’re straight, so does that mean that because you’re attracted to men you’re also attracted to boys? No it doesn’t. AND what do you mean “children shouldn’t be subjected to gay people” ? What are they being subjected to exactly by knowing of homosexuality? Or by knowing and associating with a homosexual person? I think you’re just a little sheltered, Loretta. If you actually got out into the world and made a friend or acquaintance who’s gay, you’d realize they’re not the Boogeyman. They’re people, just like you and me, and no different. Loretta, your child very well may be gay. Will you love him or her any less? I sure hope not.
My state recently began allowing openly gay men to be leaders in the boy scouts and my husband made the same connection like somehow all gay men were molesters. Oh boy did I have to set him straight. (lol, no pun intended)
Wait – instead of just throwing it away, could you please ship it to me? I’d love to have a Kindle.
Sick, Sick Sick! I will never support kindle or amazon for anything again. If people want to be gay thats their right. Just don’t push that sickness down my throat. Men are suppose to agape love, philla love our brother, not eros love our brother.
Don’t flatter yourself, Cliff. Us gay men have much better taste than to give sickos like yourself the time of day, much less a ‘date’.
See, us gay men are not repulsed by straight couples the way that people like you feign being repulsed by gay couples so that is your weakness, not mine. It will be your undoing. I do find it dubious however that a supposed “straight” man like you seem to claim could be so affected by the sexuality of other men. It’s not natural for a straight man to obsess about other men’s sex lives like you are doing… but it is natural and normal if you are gay yourself (or closeted homosexual).
If people want to be straight, that’s their right. Just don’t push that sickness down my throat (dirty!).
They did nothing different for the gay couple, that they did for the straight couple.
Being able to say you have a husband, as a man, is not “pushing” anything. If it is, then so is a woman mentioning her husband/boyfriend and so is a man mentioning his wife/girlfriend.
So please, either be against the display of relationships in general… or shoo with your boots.
Cliff – I agree. Almost as sick as bigotry and hatred.
The big problem with homosexuality is not that it is gross. The big problem is that homosexuality is sin against God. God’s plan is one man and one woman committed to each other for a lifetime.
Good thing religion isn’t factual!
And if AIDS was a scourge meant to punish gay people, then clearly someone up there loves lesbians, because they have the lowest transmission rates. The transmission rates amongst heterosexual partners is also shocking, and increasing, at least partly because there are people who, like you, seem to think sleeping with the ‘right’ sex prevents transmission. I can’t believe people still exist with these attitudes.
Look, nobody can realistically comment on whether people are born or become gay without understanding the neurobiology behind it. What matters here is that what makes others happy, and harms nobody, is none of our business. Plenty of people experiment then realise they’re not particularly gay, and many people who are go through years of denial: most people don’t have the luxury (due to bigotry, one imagines) to want to be gay, they just are. And even if someone did want to be gay, how does it harm you if they are?
And idealising the ‘natural’ world or how people are ‘meant’ to be is pointless. We evolved with all manner of flaws. Even if you don’t believe in evolution, there are loads of things that make people act and think differently: say, Asperger’s. They may not be ‘normal’, but that doesn’t make other people’s experiences less valid than yours.
Cliff, you DO realise the Greeks (whose words you borrow) actually thought having a gay life phase was perfectly normal for young men? Turns out they thought your ‘soul mate’, ie the ‘other half’ of your soul would be the same sex as you.
And, funnily enough, children don’t have that much of a problem with homosexuality, because when you’re young, you’re still learning what’s ‘normal’. I think you’ll all be surprised at how well children deal with ideas most adults struggle with, simply because they neither know, nor care about the ‘way it has always been’.
God does not hate Lesbians- She LOVES them just like She loves gay men. There are only a handful of questionable mentions in the Bible that pertain to gay men but there are well over 300 direct laws that govern straight people. God does not hate straight people but She did recognize they would need more supervision than gays…. ;-)
There gay couples mentioned very prominently in the Bible. Ruth and Naomi were lesbians. David (who slew Goliath) and Johnathan were also lovers. These are not my interpretations; there are a great many biblical scholars that agree that the language used to describe these couples were also used to describe married male/female couples as well.
People who are not gay should mind their own business and stop obsessing about normal innocent gay women and men’s sex lives.
Wow there are actually true dumbasses on here quoting old testament, key word OLD! n is really using it to help their argument which really stupid so try reading the NEW testament sometimes whih applies to us n not the old one which applied to those who actually lived in that time! ..ii agreed w/ Alex C all the wy though. Homosexuality is wrong, point, blank, period!
I am the Alpha & the Omga I change not, this answers alot..
Not appropiate, not acceptable & will never be. Sorry the truth hurts,,but it shall also set you (me) free…
I hope homophobes go extinct… We don’t need their kind polluting our world even more than it is.
I certainly hope everyone who is homophobic because the bible tells them to also kills anyone who swears at their parents(Matthew 15:4) and has short hair and doesn’t wear a hat when they pray (for men) or has long hair and does wear a hat when they pray (for women) (1 Corinthians 11:4 – 11:15).
What is next?
Accepting pedophiles is going to become “progressive”? Then gerontophiles, necrophiles and can opener-philes?
Then squirrel-philes are going to come out and tell us that they have the right to love who they choose and that they want to get married and adopt children?
The only disturbing thing about this ad is that that guy made a purchase 10 seconds after hearing about a new product. I’d at least ask the lady if I could look at her kindle, so I could compare the screen brightness & see if it was easier to read.
