I do not contend that most of Ted Talks are pretty formulated – but they purposefully do that. They actually set the speakers up with the expectations and formulas they are looking for in a speech. I, however, have been quite pleased and surprised with the backed up research they present. Most speakers put their citations up on the screen behind them if anyone wants to look it up. I also find it interesting that this cartoon put down the “humble brag” . . . who cares if they are ‘bragging’ in any way or not? The fact is THEY HAVE A PhD FROM HARVARD AND ARE QUALIFIED TO SPEAK – it isn’t a community college graduate doing coffee shop science. . .yet there is always someone who has to scoff thru middle-school-style reasoning and jokes at thoughts that require intelligence to debate if they disagree. We Americans are good at that.
