Medical student Sam Scott tells the heartbreaking story of being in the room when a heroin addict who had been brought into the hospital because of an overdose woke up. The woman quickly discovered that she was restrained to the bed and that she couldn’t speak because of a breathing tube that had been put down her throat.
Scott was the only person in the room with a notebook, so he let her use it to communicate with the doctors. He writes, “The questions she wrote down gave me chills as I watched them form on the paper.”…
