25 silly things Christians laugh at themselves for actually debating

May 22, 2014 By Joey White 2

Over the last couple days, people on Twitter — mostly Christians — have been writing sarcastic tweets joking about things the American evangelical church is stuck on. Using the hashtag #ContemporaryChristianDebates, participants are asking questions that point to issues which genuinely incite serious discussion among some Christians.

Some are funny because of how absurd they are…

Others, as the great theologian Homer Simpson said, are funny because they’re true…

The hashtag was initially meant to be a fun joke about Christians’ ability to debate any issue, no matter how small. The first tweet using the hashtag came from theologian Peter Rollins

Here are just a few…

I did not find any of them even slightly amusing. Most of them were rather dumb. I can’t believe they sit around laughing about how bigoted they are to gay people.

They’re not laughing at how bigoted they are to gay people – they’re laughing at other Christians for thinking that it’s better to starve than be supported by a gay person. It’s ridiculous, and therefore deserves derision.
