Michael Kent spent decades as part of a racist skinhead group. Then, one day his case was transferred to a new parole officer, and his life changed forever. Tiffany Whittier encouraged Michael to make changes in his life, convincing him to take down his Nazi flags and replace them with more positive images. Tiffany's affect on him was all the more powerful considering that she's not someone Michael would've associated with normally, because Tiffany is black.
Michael spent years as a member of a violent neo-Nazi group in Arizona.
Today, he couldn’t be farther from it, as he works to build his new life in Colorado. He openly admits who he was in the past, as he told ABC News, “I wouldn’t work for anybody or with anybody that wasn’t white.”
Michael credits his parole officer, Tiffany, for much of his change.
Tiffany Whittier is black, and years ago Michael would’ve wanted nothing to do with her. But, instead of conflict, Tiffany was able to inspire Michael to make positive changes in his life like taking down his Nazi flags.
Now, he's even getting his swastika tattoos removed.
“I’m not here to judge him. That’s not my job to judge. My job is to be that positive person in someone’s life,” Whittier told ABC. She clearly succeeded, as Michael has been having the swastika tattoos he received in prison covered up by professional tattoo artists.
He's sought the aid of a non-profit that specializes in cases like these.
Redemption Ink helped him connect with a tattoo parlor in Colorado that was willing to cover his offending ink for free.
The non-profit was started by tattoo artists that offers free “coverups to people baring the marks of gangs, prejudice, and hate in the form of a tattoo.”
Michael has also made other changes in his life.
His new job on a chicken farm in Colorado is one where he is the only non-Hispanic employee. However, that hasn’t stopped him from developing friendships with his co-workers, attending company parties and his co-workers’ quinceañeras. “I’m the only white guy there!” he told the news outlet.
But his transformation wasn’t over…
