In 1994, photographer Rineke Dijkstra met a 6-year-old girl named Almerisa who had fled Bosnia with her family and was living in a refugee asylum in Leiden. Beginning then, and continuing almost yearly for the next decade and a half, Dijkstra met with Almerisa and took her picture.
