Abandoned Detroit high school, then and almost now

Dec 13, 2012 By Abraham

A couple years ago, the folks at Detroiturbex spent time photographing every room in the old Lewis Cass Technical High School building in Detroit, which was abandoned after a 2007 fire. Then they superimposed onto those pictures photographs taken when the school was in use. Since then, the building has been demolished, so the background pictures aren’t actually “now,” but close enough…

That’s really cool. They look like ghosts. I long for the missing kids and for the fun and interesting experiences they got to experience in the school.

  2. Keith says:

Interesting and a little sad. The small, private high school I graduated from probably looks something like this. It closed 6 or so years ago.

  3. Sarah says:

My high school was flooded 9-13 feet after hurricane Katrina. A couple of years ago we had a class reunion and got to go back to the building. Many of the rooms looked like these. It was so crazy to see what once was practically our home in complete shambles.

  4. Nolan says:

As a 17 year old, I love abandoned places @ looking at pictures. hadn’t this school been demolished, I would have been absolutely thrilled to explore this school.

  5. Bugsie says:

I don’t understand how places in a supposedly first world country can go to ruin like that. I guess I’ve never seen anything like this before. I remember seeing some other pictures where whole libraries with books still on the shelves were abandoned and whole streets of urban decay in the Bronx in NY.

    1. Nicole says:

It’s Detroit. That says it all right there.

One building I saw there was so gutted you could look right through it and see sky on the other side. Really sad what the city has become.

  6. Kat says:

The real pity is those gorgeous murals done by budding artists and brilliant minds are just…gone. I’m sure it’s something they expected to last a lot longer.
