Last weekend, actor, activist, and former President Obama adviser, Kal Penn, received some nasty Twitter hate. How he then chose to respond has since spiraled into a viral phenomenon nothing short of incredible...
Penn had tweeted out in opposition to President Trump's recent Muslim ban, presently banning travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, and one feisty troll tweeted this back in retaliation...
Rather than simply name calling the troll right back, Penn decided to get creative.
He launched a CrowdRise fundraising campaign aimed at raising $2,500 for the International Rescue Committee all in his Twitter troll’s name.
Then, things got crazy.
In mere minutes, Penn's little campaign was flooded with incoming donations.
Only eleven minutes in, the campaign was already halfway toward its goal.
So, Penn decided to up the ante.
Every time Penn's campaign began nearing its goal, he'd increase the target.
Folks from all over the country were pitching in.
Many under delightfully ridiculous and/or politically pointed pseudonyms.
The campaign launched in the morning, and by 2pm, it had already reached $30,000!
