Artist uses skin disorder to her advantage, scratches art on herself [9 pictures]

Ariana Page Russell has dermatographia, a skin disorder that causes her to welt up with even just a little scratch. Fortunately, despite how they look, the inflammations are painless.

For her series “Skin,” Russell used her dermatographia as her medium and her body as the canvas.

The welts only last about 30 minutes, so she has a limited amount of time to scratch out some words or design and then photograph it before her work is gone and she’s back to normal…
