ost couples celebrate their anniversary by exchanging gifts. For the 25th anniversary, the traditional gift is silver. But when you're Barack Obama, you get to do things a little differently. Yesterday was the Obamas' 25th wedding anniversary. Rather than spend the entire day together, Michelle was busy at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women. It was there — during a discussion with Shonda Rhimes in front of 12,000 women — that Michelle got a surprise video message from Barack. Try and watch it without smiling. We dare you.
Earlier in the day, Michelle posted a photo on Instagram of her and her husband on their wedding day.
“A quarter of a century later, you’re still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know,” she wrote in the caption.
Awww, we’re already grinning!
The Obamas were unable to spend their anniversary together, as Michelle was busy headlining the Pennsylvania Conference for Women with producer and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes. During the keynote luncheon, the two spoke in front of a crowd of 12,000 women about how Michelle's life has changed since leaving the White House. During their conversation, Rhimes said that she had a surprise for the former first lady. Then the following video started playing:
It was a video of Barack! “I had to crash this party,” he said, “because today, we have been married for 25 years.”
He went on to share the most touching anniversary message with his wife. He listed some of the things he most admires about her, including her strength, grace, determination, honesty, and the fact that she looks “so good, doin’ all this.”
Michelle smiled throughout the entire video and the crowd of people around her applauded Barack for his thoughtful surprise.
After the video message was shared on Twitter, people started sharing their reactions to the former president's video message.
Most people couldn’t handle how adorable the Obamas are.
We get it.
Some people also pointed out that even after 25 years of marriage, Barack still talks to Michelle like he's trying to get a second date.
Everyone wants a love like that!
The Obamas are hardcore #CoupleGoals.
Barack and Michelle, thanks for giving us an example of what love is supposed to look like.
Happy 25th anniversary!
We can’t wait to see what you have planned for year 26…
