Old Japanese keyboard has 216 keys that can make 12 characters each
This unwieldy piece of linguistic and technological history is on display at The Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany…
The caption reads…
A keyboard with 216 keys, each representing twelve characters, was developed for data input in Japanese. An additional pad of 12 keys selects one of the twelve possible shift states. Altogether, more than 7000 Japanese characters can be entered. A further 26 keys serve for control purposes.”
