his holiday season, comedian Carla Valderrama's spinning classic Christmas ditty White Christmas into everything our 2016-hating heart's have been craving.
Her YouTube holiday parody, Woke Christmas breathes fresh, satirical life into a simple standard, shining a poignant light on every social issue currently igniting angry infighting on your Facebook feed.
Has your 2016 been feeling pretty...rough?
Friend, you are not alone.
UCB and The Groundlings Latina comedy veteran, Carla Valderrama’s is right there with ya.
And with the holidays eagerly approaching, she was finding it harder and harder to palate any semblance of normal Christmas cheer.
With her steady finger on our nation’s increasingly tense pulse, Valderrama told The Advocate, “I was sick and tired of being sick and tired of all the racial and social injustice that was happening.”
So she decided to speak up in the best way...through a epically hilarious YouTube parody of a common Christmas classic.
While wandering mall halls on Halloween, watching store clerks replace their spooky window decór with wreaths on wreaths on wreaths, Valderrama got to thinking.
She said, “I decided I wanted to write a Christmas song that addressed all of the things people were feeling.”
After a quick brainstorm, genius struck! White Christmas? Nah. This year, Christmas is gettin' WOKE!
Valderrama explained, “White Christmas is the most popular Christmas song and every year I put it on blast all day.”
“This year I didn’t want that. I didn’t want a White Christmas. I wanted something to remind people that there is more than one reality to life in this country. I wanted a Woke Christmas.”
Don't we all, Carla. Don't. We. All.
From the Black Lives Matter movement to the North Dakota Pipeline, Valderrama's biting satire leaves no social issue-stone unturned.
So, don't you worry, friends. Your Christmas is about to get a whole lot woker than ever before.
This video is seriously everything I’ve been feeling and more.
Thanks to Woke Christmas’s success, Valderrama’s on a new mission to ruin every holiday.
Her next project’s top secret, but a little birdie told us that this Valentine’s Day might dawn with some sort of glorious surprise…
We can’t wait.
