hat a week! Was it the best week ever? No! But that doesn’t mean there weren’t some wins and losses! Some Dubs and L’s! Let’s all take a look at This Week’s Highs and Lows! Weeks like this make the world go ‘round!
High: Timeless Entertainment!
A League of Their Own turned 25 years old! I should know, I saw it in the theater when I was, uhh, -3 (if any casting agents are reading this).
Also, July 6 was the 70th anniversary of the first time John Lennon met Paul McCartney at a backyard concert! What a chance encounter!
Furthermore, it is also the 20th anniversary of the release of freakin’ Men In Black!! That movie is dope. Aliens, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, a talking pug… It’s a total classic.
So anyway, this was a pretty good week to create something if you want it to be remembered always.
A female reporter was asked to leave Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s office because she was wearing a sleeveless dress. THE HORROR! How will Speaker Ryan ever recover? What’s next? Exposed kneecaps? Joining the 21st century and realizing women’s bodies aren’t on display for your benefit? Frankly, I’m a fan of the long white gloves look, but unless your daily routine is cosplaying Breakfast at Tiffany’s, enjoy the summer and go bare up there.
High: Prison Talent Shows!
This week, beloved actor James Cromwell was sentenced to 7 days in jail for refusing to pay a fine for protesting.
What is the acting world’s (temporary) loss is surely the prison yard theatrical department’s gain! Let’s hope they bring back Othello before he gets out! Hey! I think I have a new reality pitch — “Stars Behind Bars!” Nobody steal that!
Low: High School Civics Classes
On July 4, National Public Radio tweeted out the Declaration of Independence, but since Twitter only allows people to write messages 140 characters at a time, they had to break it up into many, many tweets. This caused mass confusion from people thinking the DOI’s call for freedom from a tyrannical king was a shot at the current President of the United States. What would ever give them THAT idea?!?
Most people finally caught on and we all had a nice laugh at the misunderstanding, but goodness gracious, people — pick up a book once in awhile.
High: Kato Kaelin!
America’s Favorite Houseguest (do we really still call him that?) won over $12,000 at a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game on Monday simply by entering the stadium’s 50/50 charity raffle.
He has seemingly struggled at every other venture he has attempted to dive into (acting, radio hosting, stand up comedy, game show contestant, defending his buddy in court, you know, the normal path through life) so maybe after all of these years he has finally found his true calling: gambling! Hey, it can’t hurt?
