"Two days before, the world heard him brag about groping women. Now we were on a small stage..." illary says as she recalls the debate.
Clinton's newest memoir tells the story of what happened during her failed 2016 Presidential campaign from her own unique perspective.
In these first released excerpts, Clinton gets real about how she felt throughout her campaign against Trump, specifically during the second debate.
Hillary Clinton will be releasing a new book next month.
The memoir, entitled What Happened, will be published on September 12.
This isn’t Clinton’s first memoir. She’s written two others — one in 2004 and one in 2014. However, this will be the first book she’s published since the election.
Clinton released the first excerpts of the book on the show Morning Joe.
The show featured audio of Clinton reading the excerpts from her book.
Two different excerpts have been shared — one about her reason for writing the book, and one that specifically delves into how she was feeling during the second presidential debate.
The first excerpt begins with Clinton stating why she wrote the book in the first place.
“I don’t have all the answers and this isn’t a comprehensive account of the 2016 race. That isn’t for me to write. I have too little distance and too great a stake in it,” she writes. “Instead, this is my story. I want to pull back the curtain on an experience that was exhilarating, joyful, humbling, infuriating and just plain baffling. Writing this wasn’t easy.”
Rather than trying to explain every facet of the 2016 election, Clinton makes it clear that she’s merely sharing her side of the story. Honestly, that’s kind of refreshing, because we’re all getting tired of hearing pundits try to explain “what went wrong.”
Clinton also states that she feels as though she let a lot of people down by failing to win the presidency.
“Every day that I was a candidate for president, I knew that millions of people were counting on me and I couldn’t bear the idea of letting them down. But I did. I couldn’t get the job done. And I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life.”
After Donald Trump was elected, Clinton gave a concession speech that touched the hearts of many. Immediately after the election, she stayed out of the public eye for a little while. Now we know that she spent at least some of that time away writing her book.
Obviously, the election was filled with both highs and lows for the presidential candidate.
“In this book, I write about moments from the campaign that I wish I could go back and do over. If the Russians could hack my subconscious, they’d find a long list. I also capture some moments I want to remember forever. Like when my tiny granddaughter raced into the room while I was practicing my convention speech and what it was like hours later to step on stage to deliver that speech as the first woman ever nominated by a major political party for president of the United States.”
Unfortunately, Trump’s creepy behavior during the debate wasn’t over. Hillary had this to say about his actions:
